I'm a swimmer and have been swimming for the past six years. Now, swimming is a tough sport, and another four years of swimming in college is a difficult decision to make. Can someone please DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN DI/DII/DIII? Does anyone know what sorts of pros/cons there are to athletics (swimming) DI/DII/DIII? How does athletics affect college life and classes?

EDIT: Financial Aid and Scholarships for DI/DII/DIII?

D3 cannot give out money for athletic scholarships.
D1 is far and away the most competitive. It is also in general the most time consuming, but this also largely depends on the coaches at each school.
D1 schools generally have the most money so you’ll generally get more support as an athlete at D1’s than D2 and D3 schools. Again, this isn’t a rule; there are exceptions.

D3 Around the same time commitment as high school sports. Very manageable, not as much travel. Just no scholarships.
D1: I talked to my college counselor and she told me about her sister’s son or something. He landed a spot on the ND men’s soccer team… and he hated it. He said D1 took the fun out of soccer. Some people love the amount of competition, but I’d be careful. It’s more cut throat.
