Does the student body support their sport teams, and what sports are the most popular?

The student body is very active physically, a good complement to the intense academics. About half the students are involved in intramural, club, junior varsity, or varsity athletics. Many of the students support their friends by attending the various events. If you haven't looked already, the athletics page of the Williams website is a good place to find out about the college's sports teams: http://williams.prestosports.com/landing/index

Some of the larger varsity teams include (both men's and women's) cross country/track and field, swimming and diving, and crew, and also football; the ultimate frisbee group has quite a few members as well. Intramural/coed soccer in the fall and broomball in the winter are popular, too. The Winter Carnival, held two days in February, celebrates skiing and the season. About half of the campus takes part in the various hikes planned for Mountain Day, a spontaneous school holiday announced one Friday in October. Many students have no prior athletic experience but begin participating when they arrive at Williams.
