Athletics...kinda strange question

Would being a state champion/top 5 in the state in a track and field event really help your admissions, if you were already an exceptional student? (national awards & recognition., high test scores)? I'm asking this because the event that I excel in is the triple jump, not very publicized.

look into their track and field program and contact their coach
i'm sure he'd pull strings for you if they need the athletes
an accomplishment like that is phenomenal

Yes, it could help. There are a lot of exceptional students who apply so showing skill and dedication in a non-academic field will help set you apart. Stanford seems to like people with unusual interests, so I'd definitely at least mention that you are a state champion in the triple jump (and just make it clear that it's a track and field event).

I'm kind of in the same boat. I am a state champion except for in tennis. The only thing about Stanford is that they are a very athletic school. Unless you've been recruited by one of the coaches and can compete at the NCAA Div. I level then it's just another EC on your list. Not too much help.
