Is there any recruiting of student athletes looking for a post graduate year at one of these prep schools? And along the same line, is there financial aid for post grad students?

Thanks

Yes and maybe. If you are looking for this fall, you are a little late, although there may be a space available somewhere. It really depends on your sport. Some of the prep schools have a strong focus in a particular sport- i.e. Blair for wrestling, Culver for ice hockey.... You should figure out where you would best develop as a student-athlete and contact the coach.

And if you are not looking for this fall, looking for fall '08, it doesn't hurt to call and interview in SEPTEMBER. The schools will understand if you do a dual application process (prep PG and college).

Recruiting, in my experience, is not as extensive as it is in the collegiate arena. Financial aid -- probably some. Especially if you are a super standout in a high profile sport. Although -- there are probably colleges that want you also in that scenario.

cnp55, did you mean Fall '07? I don't think you can apply two years in advance.

If you are going to be a high school senior this September, then you should apply for PG this year.

I did mean for next fall, apply this fall. It's possible to apply for this fall during this summer also -- but there may or may not be a bed for you.

I am dazed and confused this morning -- that's what happens when I work 8 days in a row. Don't know what time it is, what day it is, or apparently what YEAR it is!

If you are applying for Fall '07, you are way ahead of other PG applicants. PG sports applicants, typically take the PG year because they didn't get into the school(s) they wanted or need a bit more game film or something else. That decision is usually made around December or so by most seniors.

You might want to mention your sport as some members may have first hand knowledge of what schools seek out PGs for your particular interest.

I would add, that if you apply in September, even if you are doing dual applications while you sort through your recruiting options, that the schools will take your interest very seriously.

In our case, my son was 17 when he graduated from high school. We had felt for several years that a PG year would be a good option. He did have to choose between a good college that wasn't his dream vs. a PG year with the possibility of a better college and better team dangling out. It worked out for him ...
