Athletics worth mentioning in my case?

Hi all- I started fencing the summer between 10th and 11th. I did it for a month pretty intensely and then due to junior year schoolwork, I put it off until about March. From there, I started again and this summer I am training again pretty intensely (almost every day). Next year I will be doing it year round (senior year) and I will probably be competing, though in no way will I be like a fencing recruit, etc. etc. Since I'm not THAT good and relatively new, is it still worth mentioning since its not that impressive? I still want to fence in college, since I actually enjoy it, but will it hurt me to put a sport if I'm not as good as people who have been doing it all 4 years?

of course not. putting it down will only help you. try to start a fencing team or use your interest in fencing to do something cool, and add that to your app.

Yeah I could try that. I already have a passion (music) thats well explored and that will take me far. I’m just wondering if my lack of involvement in athletics (since everyone in my school happens to be a varsity football player or a runner with a mile time under 5 minutes) will end up hurting me.

I used to fence but stopped when I got sick and didn’t start back up. Still like it though. You should definitely mention it and contact the fencing coaches at colleges you’re interested that have teams. You might want to send them videos of you at a competition or at a training session. It can’t hurt and it just might make all the difference. GOOD LUCK!!!
