athletics

Hello,
I know that HC participates at Div III level in athletics, but I was mainly wondering how friendly or supportive the coaches are, and what the facilities are like. (Particularly in the areas of cross country and track). Thanks!

I can't comment on the coaches really, because I'm not an athlete. But I can comment on the facilities. Haverford's Men and Women's Cross Country and Track teams are both at the top of their division. The Men's team has consistently won the Conference Championship for the last 35 years and came in 3rd overall for the National rankings of Division III. There's a lot of team bonding as well...they eat together, live together, run together (sometimes I think it's a little much, but they seem to have a lot of fun). We have a 400 meter outdoor track and a 200 meter indoor track. These are widely regarded as some of the best running facilities in the greater Metropolitan area...so Haverford hosts a lot of local and state high school and community running events especially during the summer months. They've just bit a huge 100,000 square foot athletic center with a labyrinth of customized locker rooms and coach offices filling up the basement- each team has their own. Which is pretty nice. If you're interested in cross country and/or track...Haverford is a pretty good place for it.

I don't know much about the women's cross country and track coach, but I met the men's coach during accepted students day and he was great. He is definately friendly and it seems like he cares for every single runner on his team regardless of skill. I definately look forward to being an athlete of his this fall. From what I've heard (although I never met her) the women's coach is great as well.

I “definitely” ( :) ) agree except, although the women’s coach is named “Fran”, we’re talking about a guy.

the track/xc teams are the most supportive, well-coached teams on campus.
