I am attending Gtech this fall and on the application it asked for "campus of study" and I immediately put Atlanta. But what's the difference between savannah and atlanta?
is Atlanta the most common choice?

Atlanta is Georgia Tech’s main campus. Savannah has Armstrong Atlantic State University which is where people attend and then essentially autotransfer to Tech in Atlanta once they meet the requirements. How do I know? Because I had several friends do the latter (I’m from Savannah). Atlanta is the common choice. Savannah is for those who cannot immediately go to Tech’s main campus at first for w/e reasons (low chance of admission, finances, a need to be close to home, etc.)

GT Savannah is being phased out after fall of 2011 so I would not recommend applying to that campus.

See here for more: [GT | Newsroom - Georgia Tech-Savannah Task Force Report Accepted by President](http://www.gatech.edu/newsroom/release.html?nid=66536)

oh I totally forgot about this. I was wrong. I think it’s located in this “business” park like area off of I-16 (or maybe in Pooler, I forget). Yeah, this is something different than what I speak of, which I’m sure is still an option that won’t be phased out. My bad.

However, wouldn’t doing the Armstrong Atlantic program be better for someone’s GPA? :o

Does that make any sense? The GPA won’t transfer in. Also, it can be questioned whether or not it will help once the student gets to Tech because if the Armstrong counterparts to the engineering associated pre-reqs are not as rigorous as Tech’s the student may have a disadvantage against those at Tech who probably have the math, chem, and physics courses in addition to some engineering courses under their belt. Basically, Tech students will likely be ahead.

GT Savannah is an actual college (actually it’s an extension of the Atlanta campus) and courses taken there do count towards the GT GPA. GT-Savannah students are GT students and receive exact same degree as GT-Atlanta students. The classes aren’t easier than GT-Atlanta (at least theoretically). GT-Savannah is currently phasing out the undergraduate program so it’s not the best place to attend.

Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) is a separate school. AASU students are not GT students. Classes taken at AASU do not transfer into the GT GPA.

The confusion is that some students apply to GT and are instead admitted to the GTS-AASU program. Students in this program are not GT students and the program is actually a rejection from GT. This program is admission to AASU with a guaranteed transfer to GTS if a minimum GPA and courseload is met.

thanks for the posts guys. so basically the Georgia Tech everyone knows is in Atlanta, not savannah.
that was my confusion.
