atmosphere at oberlin..

im not sure if any of you go to oberlin, but i was just wondering.. ive heard that people try to act too eccentric there, past the norm for a liberal arts school. just wondering what its like there? im planning on visiting, and ive heard its better then kenyon. any comments on that would be appreciated too. i also heard that some people are not very accepting of heterosexuals <-- although this is all hearsay..

Some people definitely try to be extra-eccentric, but Oberlin's reputation is a big exaggeration. Three generations of my family has gone to Oberlin (my brother is there now) and I am applying this year. I visited in November and thought it was great. Seriously, at Oberlin you run into no more weirdness and gay pride issues than you would at Wesleyan or Grinnell or even Carleton. I would advise you to visit and see for yourself.

haha thanks for responding, i was just thinking no one knew anything about oberlin on this site. yeah i think all LAC are considered too eccentric, but i really like oberlin. im planning on visiting because i really like it.. the only downside for me is that its really close to home. so is oberlin your first choice?

It is weird, but there are a lot of normal people too :).

im from outside us and have applied to oberlin. do u think its really as good as it is projected to be?. what is its latest ranking guys?

its good its in the 20s in the U.S. news rankings, it has strong sciences, social science, and humanities programs. Yes, Oberlin does have its share of homosexuals, but I doubt if they'll crucify and close their doors to you if you are heterosexual. Oberlin is too progressive and liberal to be that unaccepted.
