Atmosphere at U of R

I was wondering what you would call the overall atmosphere of Rochester?

The best way to understand the overall atmosphere at Rochester is to ask our students. If you go on AOL Instant Messenger, MSN, or other chat interfaces we have students logged on. The screen name for AOL is UR Admissions.

At Rochester, academics come first – 45% of our students go on to pursue graduate education – but students also like to have fun. For example, this weekend B.J. Novak, co-star of The Office, will be performing on campus as part of Yellowjacket Weekend. Yes, our school mascot is a bee!

amazingly warm and welcoming. i would definitely visit and see for yourself. the atmosphere is what got me to come to rochester all the way from california. upperclassman are very cordial to underclassmen, everyone is willing to help out with whatever problems you may encounter, and there is very much a sense of community on campus.

In terms of literally the atmosphere, how is the weather? I’m sure it’s pretty cold during winter and pretty snowy, but is it enjoyable? I’ve always HATED the southern heat (I live in Arkansas…), and I would love to go to the North for a while and experience what the weather is like there (esp. in Rochester or Chicago or places like those).

Winter comes early and leaves late. By March, everyone’s pretty sick of it, but until then it’s not bad. There are tunnels linking all the academic buildings, which makes it easier. And Rochester knows how to deal with snow and ice - it’s not like, say, Washington DC where an inch of snow shuts everything down.

D did say that the wind bothered more than the snow or temperature. Wide open quads and plazas would lend themselves to wind, I suppose.

thanks for all the information guys.

thanks for the info.. i’ll keep that in mind.. i’ve always wanted to be in that weather, so i think this will be a good thing for me to see if i actually like that kind of weather or not

hey i was wondering what the social life was like at U of R. What’s the city like? Is there stuff to do on and off campus on the weekends?
