Hi. What is the student atmosphere like at Wesleyan (competitive, collaborative, relaxed, a mix)? And what do people do for fun (weekends, after class, nights)? Thanks in advance.
It’s hard to generalize because no one person can experience all aspects of the university within a limited time. My suspicion is that it depends on your major, the arts being more collaborative and Economics - perhaps - being more on the competitive end of the spectrum. But, that’s mostly based on trope rather than actual experience. I do know from frequent visits to campus that there is always something going on. There are movies virtually every night of the week, most of them free for students. Downtown restaurants are a few steps away from campus and I’ve spotted Wesleyan students at every one I have been to. And, of course, just walking up and down some of the side streets around campus one will very often see small caravans of students going door to door with pot-luck goodies in hand (the college grocery store, Weshop, is probably the busiest place on campus, second maybe to Usdan Center.)
In short, I think both academically and socially, Wesleyan can be as competitive or laid-back as you want it to be.
Thanks man, good to know.
