I am a rising senior, and I'll be applying to mostly liberal arts colleges (Wesleyan, Oberlin, etc.) I'm interested in Northwestern, though, because I want to study journalism. I'm looking for a school with a strong artsy/indie/unconventional population...I know Northwestern is known for its frats, but I was wondering if there's still an "alternative" group of students. If you've visited the campus or are currently a student, please let me know! Thanks.

It's called "the entire south half of campus". Allison, Chapin, Hinman, Jones (for theater kids), CRC== indy haven.

naia, I'm a Medill student living in the CRC, and I can't even agree with arbiter213 more. If you want quirk (and a really great family environment), look to the South, especially the CRC (Communications Residential College).

And, not to say anything negative against my school (I <3 NU), but have you checked out Amherst? When I was applying to schools, it was a top choice of mine. I absolutely loved it. It's definitely a quirk school, and an amazing institution at that!

But, of course, go 'Cats!
