The University Federal Credit Union has ATM’s all over campus, including one in the CS building. Transactions are free for UFCU customers. Overall, UFCU does a great job providing services to the UT and Austin communities.

Here’s a campus ATM map: https://www.ufcu.org/files/pdfs/Map_CampusAreaATMS.pdf

My son uses Chase bank and doesn’t have a problem getting cash.

We also chose Chase over FCU because FCU has a lot of branches and ATMs in Austin but is very poorly represented in other places. And I did not feel comfortable depositing checks on the phone, some people commented that FCU application did not work very well. I believed it because their online application did not work very well. As a matter of fact it did not work at all when we tried to apply.

Thanks to all for the quick responses.

It seems the ATMs located at UT are from UFCU.
Does Chase debit card work at ATMs located in UT with out any withdraw fee?
Any idea about Bank of America account?

Thanks

I don’t know about ATMs.

My daughter had UT card with Dine in Dollars and Bevo Bucks and paid for everything on campus with that card.
Chase Bank and some other banks (I saw Wells Fargo, I believe there is Bank of America branch too) are located on the Drag (Guadalupe Street) where most of shops, cafes, restaurants and fast food places are. Most of them accept UT card and Bevo Bucks (with discount???) but you can pay with credit card, debit card or cash from ATM if you wish (as I said most banks are on the Drag).

Taking into consideration that it’s downtown and freshmen have little life experience and are first time away from home, I always thought it was safe to use as little cash as possible and the best way to pay for everything was with some kind of card.

You’ll have to check with Chase or Bank of America about ATM withdrawal fees from a non-Chase or non-BoA ATM. Each bank sets their own policies and fees.

UFCU is the most practical bank account to have for students. Free withdrawls vs. charged? Free is always better! I have had UFCF for 5 years and have been nothing but thrilled. I have also had a bank account (vs a credit union) and i was charged randomly for every little thing. UFCU has never charged me for anything. I highly recommend it!

Big banks usually don’t charge student accounts if you bank online (don’t ask for paper statement etc).
Chase did not charge us a penny
