my grades have been in a steady decline ever since I stepped in the door in september, and APUSH is the reason. I really don’t like dropping classes or “giving up”, but it’s time to do the smart thing in order to bring my grades up. I’m capable of taking every class, but there just isn’t enough time in the day to fit in all four. Due to my APUSH troubles, I have 3 Cs and 2 Bs, whereas sophomore year and freshman year I had all As in the most difficult courses. Junior year is apparently the most important year, and I need to perform. I recently received a 1480 on the PSAT, just to put things in perspective, a 780 on SAT math II and 740 on sat II bio m. I really want to do well in AP Biology, since I’m planning on majoring in the sciences. Looking for some input on what I should do here in order to maximize my grades.
OK I was confused about S1 is often son1 here. Yes drop down if you can’t handle the load of APUSH. It can be a dense course. You have to take the remedial stop if you are getting Cs your load is too much to handle successfully. If you only have 4 classes I don’t see how you have 5 grades though. Jr year I know my kid was studying 5 days from 7pm to 12am and prob half a day sat and sun and pretty stressed. Doing school activities (sports, leadership, science) in the afternoon hours till dinner. If you aren’t putting in that level of hours, likely that isn’t sufficient for that course load.
Very common to have all As fresh and soph years, then trip up Jr. year. It’s much harder.
I agree with BP, drop APUSH. Although I’d also drop one of the others if you think you need to.
3 Cs is killer. I’d rearrange that S2 schedule such that you are comfortable that you won’t get any more Cs.
With those 3 Cs, you don’t need to worry as much about “course schedule rigor” any more. Primary concern would be putting together a schedule where you can get as many As as possible, as few Bs and absolutely no more Cs.
thanks for the advice. APUSH isn’t a joke class at our school, and it’s interfering with everything else. Don’t like saying it, but I’ll probably drop down.
