i noticed the uncommon app doesnt have the part that the common app has for "scholastic achievements" and other accomplishments. should i attach the things i put on the common app under that section on a seperate sheet of paper with a title and attach it to my app with my essays and everything? or just not bother?

Doesn't it have room for that in the activities section (listing your honors and awards). If you cant work it in there, feel free to attatch thigns.

I attatched a resume that we were required to create in English. It had personal/school info, courses taken, tests taken/scores, acedemic things, extracuricular things, volunteer things, and work experiance. It was all nicely organized so I just pasted it into the additional info page even though some of the info was repeated

i mean things like: score ??? on AMC12, highest score in grade, blah, blah, blah, ran most successful blood drive in school history, etc.

should it just be attached at the very end? after the 2 questions and essay?

I thought it was interesting that they didn't have a section for academic honors...most schools do. Maybe they don't want to hear about it -- if it's really really outstanding put it, but maybe they were just getting a bunch of national honor roll kind of stuff.

Here's another question about attaching stuff. I am currently doing this massive project starting a rowing team for breast cancer survivors. I've been discussing it with many schools at interviews, but Chicago was my first interview (early July) and I wasn't really doing the project yet. I asked someone from the organization that I am working with to write me a letter of recommendation, hoping that would cover it. She jsut gave me a copy, and although it is a wonderful letter, it's all about my personality, not the project. I think the fact that I am doing this should (hopefully) help me at least marginally, but how should I tell them?

did anyone that got in EA attach anything to their app besides their essays?

No, but there is an add'l information section that can be used. You have to figure that if they don't ask for academic honors, they really aren't all that interested. But dd had a special field she was involved with so she did list some honors given in the add'l info section.

I'm thinking of mailing a supplement, but I guess I should email my regional counselor first and ask? Anyone? A friend of mine (who got in early) said I should mail a supplement with a letter explaining my project, a newspaper article in our local paper about me and the project, and an article I wrote for the school paper about it (also useful since I want to become a journalist), but that seems like it could be a bit excessive... Thanks

My dd's counsellor included an Imagine magazine article she wrote about her EC, and her teacher included an abstract she is co-author on with him, so she only had to mention the EC in the add'l info section. Also it was partly the subject of the mustard essay. But if it had not been done for her, she would have included the article and just listed the abstract in add'l info.

In your case, I'd include either the newspaper article or your article, both if they are not redundent. I would not overkill and include a letter (the poor AO's have so much to read!). You should write one of the essays about it or include some short notes in the add'l info section.

yeah, I'll do a very brief note ;) I was really hoping my supplemental rec would cover it, but now it's mailed and it doesn't so what can I do... Anyway, my long essay is about coxing but not the rowing team for breast cancer survivors in particular and I really don't think it would fit in well. At this point, I've got that essay exactly where I like it. And it doesn't fit for either of the others, does it? Anyway, thanks so much for the advice!

So... if we really want to include academic awards, we should put them in the additional info section?

My S attached an activities sheet that listed the college classes he has taken, ECs, awards, community service/internships and a few hobbies. He was accepted EA.

how did you send such an activities sheet in? i mean, doesn't the uncommon app have to be submitted online? i tried printing out the preview of the app but it has "Not submitted" printed everywhere in the background. ehh, is there any other way?

It doesn't have to be submitted online...I was definitely mailed a paper version and they say there's something you can print out too.

yea, I was mailed a paper version but I don't want to handwrite anything. That's too messy, and typewriter takes FAR too long. But there's a printable one on their site that you can fill out? Like on the common app for other colleges, you fill it out as if you were applying online but then print the print preview and mail that. Chicago doesn't use the common app and their print preview says "Not submitted" all over it :(

i think they dont ask because they know that every applicant worth his spit will have some run of the mill accomplishments. they'd probably be glad to know about some of your truly stellar achievements, but i think that they're suggesting by their lack of a space for it that it doesn't carry a whole lot of weight unless it's remarkable.
