Attaching a Resume... Yes? No?

Is it a good idea? I have participated in a lot of ECs and I have lots of community service. The common app only gives space for 7 activities and there is very little room to elaborate. Would it be obnoxious to attach a resume? I don't want to bug admissions officers... but my ECs are probably my strongest point and I don't want to not show them off... especially if I find out other people are.

Input please!? Thanks

It’s a good idea. Go ahead an attatch the resume.

Thanks for your input. Do you think I should set a length limit? It could go on for a while, but I have already cut some things out of it.

Yes, send a high school resume. Keep it to one page only!

Ok… if I need to cut it down… what types of things do I take out?

Keep out the fluff and padding. Keep it simple.

Yeah… but what exactly constitutes “fluff and padding”, ha…

Keep your descriptions short and sweet. Things to include about your EC’s would be: how many hours per week, through what years in HS have you done it, a succint description of the activity, any leadership positions, and include no more than that. I agree, keep it limited to one page.

Hopeful - If you can’t keep the resume to one page (my D couldn’t … long story) then at least keep it to front and back of one sheet, with most important stuff listed first. Also, keep in mind that the longer your resume, the harder it is for the reader to see what’s most important to you, as well as what you’re best at.

Yeah that makes sense… but I think I am sending it online, so I can’t do the 2 sided thing. Right now I have it set up: work history, community service, other activities, awards, into those 4 sections. Is that okay. Where did your daughter end up, newhope?

What is a good format for an additional resume? are the first couple templates on this website acceptable?
[college application resume - docstoc](http://www.docstoc.com/search/college-application-resume/)

Get the Henrnandez book on college apps from the local library and follow it
for the resume format. (note that her advice in other sections may be out of date)

You would use the additional info section of the common app to upload your
information.

No, do not keep the additional info section short or abbreviated. Give the appropriate
level of information with clear titles that allow for the reader to locate the info if
they are looking for it. If the reader does nto want the info they will simply skip it.
If they do they can use your additional section as a reference.

I followed the above, my additional info section was >> than 1 page and I
was admitted to all the 6 schools I applied to including HPMS and Caltech.

Also, you can take this section with you when you interview or provide it to your
recommenders so they get a comprehensive picture of your activities.
