Columbia seems to hate applicants who attach extra sheets to their application. Is that so?

I find the Why-I-Want-to-go-to-columbia very constricting and would like to attach more one more page to it. Would they mind? Also, their essay requirement says 1-2pages and 250-500 words. 2 pages is way more than 500 words. Which one should I follow?

I wouldn’t attach extra pages. They set a CHARACTER limit on the Why Columbia “essay” for a reason; they want you to be concise and to the point.

In my opinion, you should worry less about the length of the essay, and more about the substance. I’m not saying go over 2 pages, but if you need to use 700 words to convey your message properly, then do it. My essay was 900 words, and I feel that I could not get my point across with any less words.

However, that’s just my opinion; there have been instances of people who got in with essays longer than 500 words, but we don’t know what their other stats were like. Like I said, get your message across to your reader in an efficient manner, and the number of words won’t make much of a difference.

Oh, and 2 pages = 500 words double spaced.

Also, they see the essay in Adobe Acrobat. They won’t see the exact word count.
