Hey, I am currently a Freshman at FSU looking to transfer to UF and was trying to get a good read on my odds. I have 41 credits from AP classes in high school and took 15 credit hours this semester, so I just have to complete my last prerequisite class next semester (Managerial Accounting), and I’ll be good to transfer. I got a 29 on my ACT, I’m prob going to get a 3.8-3.9 GPA this semester, and I have a good amount of extracurricular. I am really scared b/c the website for UF says its really competitive, and I heard they give preference to community college students. Can someone let me know if I have a good shot or if am I putting a lot of effort in for nothing?
If I’m counting right that only constitutes 56 credits and you need 60 to apply. Also the transfer acceptance rate to UF is around 42% (almost double their freshman rate). I have a few friends there right now and haven’t heard anything about the community college idea. I’m guess if you’re transferring from a Florida school you’re an in state resident, so that helps too as they need to meet a quota for in state acceptances. Your GPA looks good but that won’t matter if your credits aren’t there. In the end, colleges don’t need to report transfer GPAs so GPA tends to matter a little less. Is managerial accounting going to be your A.A.? If so, you’re fine. If you’re class of 2021 (as it seems like you are based on credits) we may have an advantage as kids who went to UF as a safety last year (since our year had the greatest number of applications at every school in the country) may be transferring out. On the other hand, it may mean that they are overcrowded. Also note that it depends on which school you are applying to and how many spots they have open within your intended major.
Let me know if you applied already or have any updates as I know you posted this a bit ago.
For reference I applied Feb 1st out of state school (but in state resident) and my application hasn’t been referred to my college yet (an admissions counselor told me this was most likely because they were waiting on my Aice scores)
72 credits (including 18 credit hours each semester this school year, 30 AP credits, and 6 Aice credits)
3.70 GPA
33 ACT
Top 8% of graduating HS class
Applied to Computer Science major in College of Arts and Sciences
@saharasand A couple of points…
Unlike the CSC program, Finance is a limited access program at UF. Some years no transfer students get accepted. Most transfers to UF college of business end up in the BABA program. The posters stats are very good, so it’s worth a chance and program enrollment does fluctuate from year to year.
Not many students are using UF as a “safety” school and then transferring out in an year or two. The overall transfer out rate at UF is 2% and the freshman retention rate is 97%.
Basically, I think it’s impossible. You can try but I don’t think BABA transfer students are eligible for finance.
@UFtransferplease : give FSU a try. An honest, true, try. If you don’t like it after a semester, think of transferring to another college that’s known for finance, but stop thinking of UF. Your odds of transferring into finance at UF are lower than getting into Wharton.
