For all you lucky applicants who received multiple acceptances, please take the time to notify those schools that are no longer under consideration.

For example, if you were offered admission at Andover, Exeter, SPS, Loomis and Hotchkiss -- and you are deciding between Andover and SPS, but you know that you absolutely won't be going to Loomis, Exeter or Hotchkiss, please let them know.

You can call them and leave a message, email the admissions office (probably the best way) or mail them a letter. Just do this ASAP.

This allows the school to offer admission (and possibly FA, if you were an FA candidate) to another student who is probably agonizing over their waitlist position. If they find out from you that you aren't coming to their school, they may be able to offer placement to someone else in time for them to attend revisit days.

Every year kids get so excited about where they got accepted, they forget to let the other school's know of their decision (sometimes the schools only find out when contracts aren't returned). Let's all help out those on the waitlist by notifying the schools today.

It all depends on the acceptances -- some kids know for certain which schools they won't attend, others are still deciding.

It is pretty hard to attend 5 revisit days and make a decision by April 10th. Most people with multiple acceptances narrow the list down to 2-3 schools.

Based on FA offers and his preferences, my son was able to tell four schools that he was declining admissions -- and hopefully he opened a spot on the waitlist for others that needed FA.

I agree with hsmomstef. There are a lot of kids on this forum alone that have been wait listed at some great schools. I would hope that when you have narrowed your choices down you would take the time to let schools that are definitely out of the running know.

I'm sure there are many wait listed kids and parents that would thank you!

This should be read by everyone. I hope that everyone realizes that alerting the school helps the school out and can make a living hell of anxiety for waitlisted kids disappear.

I'm going to hate having to tell some schools that I won't attend, but I really hope my spot goes to a CCer or another person who deserves it.

I have to admit I'm amazed at some of the multiple acceptances this year, but also by the number of kids accepted who don't have clear & strong preferences for one school over others (assuming that they did visit most schools before applying).

From what I've heard, more kids than usual are wait-listed this year. There certainly is a lot of uncertainty all around.

OK, you guys calm down, I too was placed on a waitlist (Hotchkiss) but there is no need to panic and tell them to make up their decision right now. In fact waiting longer is better for me so I can write essays to Hotchkiss. This is their future so give them time to think about it and I am sure they are courteous and when they have thought plenty then they will inform there schools. ITS TOO EARLY FOR ANYONE TO MAKE UP THEIR MIND!!!

Well, definitely the schools have kept all of you applicants waiting for the last few months, so take the time you need to sort issues out. Quick note to accepted students; the phone calls will start; from the schools, from kids at the schools, from parents of kids at the schools. Take these calls as opportunities to ask questions, delve deeper, til you are comfortable. You'll get there.

Typically schools won't start to make decisions on wait listed candidates until the last day to let them know if you're coming. Remember, they have accepted many more than they need and they need the full picture before moving on the list. One kid saying no today does not mean anyone comes off the list tomorrow.

No one should fell guilty for fully considering all of their options and going on revisits to make certain. Many kids change their minds after revisits.

This is a tough year and wait list activity at some schools will not be over until school starts in September.

I wouldn't advocate that anyone rush to make up their mind. But very often, students with multiple acceptances have a clear preference and have already eliminated one of more schools on their list.

I think it's doubtful that they can offer a spot to a WL candidate before April 10th though, even if a lot of people call to say 'no'. I've never heard of that happening.
