ATTENTION EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW IF THEY CAN GET INTO AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL. STOP TAKING ADVICE FROM PPL ON THIS SITE ABOUT IT BECAUSE IVY LEAGUE ACCEPTANCE IS PRETTY RANDOM. MOST OF THESE PPL HAVENT EVEN GOTTEN TO COLLEGE YET IN THE FIRST PLACE SO YOU MIGHT WANNA RECONSIDER WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY.

Im not mad, I just found out this one persson who have a 460 on verbal SAT and 490 on math SAT was accepted to an Ivy. So that about tells you nothing is accurate.

If he got in with those scores, he's either:

a) A URM (i.e., Black/Hispanic/Native American, etc.)
b)a recruited athelete.

That's assuming of course, that the OP is even telling the truth (which is very very doubtful... he's probably some guy who got bad feedback on a chances thread and got sulky).

If it's impossible to know if this person's telling the truth, then you all have just as little right to doubt him as you do to believe him--though I agree that it does sound implausible.

However, it does happen at schools like that. At a lot of top schools, a very small percentage of students (below 1%) will have sub 6 and 500 scores, according to statistics.

^^This is true, but it's still possible that both scores are low (and it's also unlikely that a low math score would be compensated solely by a high CR score, and vice versa, since there are so many people with great scores in both areas. It's probably something much more attractive than a high score in a different section.)

OP, ive been saying that for the longest!! Stop asking for advice and taking advice about how to get into IVY's. No one has a sure shot and there's no particular formula either....u just get in or u dont.

Personally, I don't believe the OP's story at all--and it wouldn't be the first time someone on here has given false data or not the whole story.

The only way someone would get into an Ivy with those scores is if they were a transfer student as a college junior, and the Ivy didn't see these scores (which were their SAT scores as a high school senior). Otherwise, this is bunk--IMHO, of course.

win siemens, get an IMO gold medal, help kids in africa, be fluent in more language than HYP teaches, and take enough college courses to get a masters degree when you walk in.

gee, thanks www.urcool.com! i was going ask my chances on applying to an ivy but not anymore! youve really shown me the light here; i think youre totally right about the rest of these CCers. why should i listen to them when you, the voice of truth, (and not a CCer) make it clear IN ALL CAPS that none of these jerkoffs are right, EVER! !!~!!LoL!!~! thanks!. ****head.

You're right!!!!!!!!!!
I've just had an epiphany! let's all stop asking for advice from people on CC! heck! let's shut CC down entirely!!

You people amaze me. Yes, of course we should all take every word of advice with a grain of salt... particularly because we are all in the dark here and have no sure grasp on the admissions process. But there is still much wisdom for us all to gain from one another. We receive suggestions, constructive criticism, and tips that really do come in handy...

u ignorant fools, ur sarcasm is plaguing. it isnt about whether you believe me or not, its about the truth and it happened. this person took a lot of AP classes and maintained good grades in them, plays the oboe and alto saxophone, and takes lessons and played football. whether that helped or not im not sure. dont call me a **** head because you are mad u didnt get accepted with higher scores and you're not confident in urself. anything is possible. a lot of ppl who apply to ivies dont play instruments such as the oboe and is in football. the oboe is one of the rarer instruments. so whether u believe me or not i could care less, alls i am saying is stop ruining ppls egos by saying they have no chance. this is a true story and im not gonna get defensive about it, if you didnt get accepted to college yet OR havent been accepted to college you basically have no say in this anyway.

This is just one case (if it's true) out of thousands of others. It's still a fact that it will be easier to get into an Ivy with high SAT scores.

yea u really have to be an idiot to get a 950...because if u think about it...if they (a person with a 950) decided to go to an Ivy league school, there would be no chance in hell that they would be able to actually succeed there...im sorry, but most Ivy'ers are quite intelligent, and the course load and all the other random stuff are going to be difficult for them to pass. Of course, unless this person had an amazing GPA, and maybe had a good ACT score...that would be more feasible.
