Attention All Ivy Hopefuls

^And you'd also have to be an idiot to assume that an ivy would admit someone that they were sure would fail.

Think about it.

If you were an admissions officer, would you admit someone to your prestigious institution if you thought it was likely they'd fail? No. And you know why? Because it would reduce your graduation rate and worsen your statistics. It would also lower your SAT average, so not only would a person with a 950 have a damn good reason for being admitted, but other reasons would assure the admissions officers that they wouldn't straight up fail. You all have to think about these things. The vast majority of people with sub-600 SAT scores in math or verbal that are admitted to elite schools ARE NOT straight up dumb; they usually have some reason.

but if they succeeded in AP at a competitive school that tells u that they didnt try on the SAT....not that their dumb.

But still if I was an admission officer I wouldn't want someone who was so lazy that he didn't even bother to do well in his SAT. So even if it shows he's not dumb it does show that he doesn't bother working hard for a very important exam and indicates very bad qualities of the student

then i remembered, urcool; i did get in. oops.

urcool joined CC 6 days ago. Pure troll.

Yeah, by the way you shouldn't ask your college guidance counselor about applying to college because they probably didn't go to the schools you're interested about.

And don't ask the admissions people at the schools you're interested in, because they probably didn't go to those schools for undergrad, anyway.

I love how you assume doing badly means the person is lazy if it proves they aren't dumb. You need to think outside of the box--there are a number of reasons that intelligent and hard working people could have terrible SATs.

well that's why they go to college to study a comparative perspective on things....they dont need to go to all colleges...they have a degree....the ppl on this site dont...

^ hahaha.. your sure right about that. but the advice does help....its just redudant, that's all.

In any case, this one anecdote doesn't change anything. Assuming you're not trolling, ONE person you know got in with a sub-1000 SAT score. Talk to the other sub-1000 Ivy applicants. I doubt you will find more than two who were also accepted.
One outlier isn't grounds to say admissions isn't random. Sure, a lot of people say it's random, but that's AFTER you get to a vertain stage of qualifications.

I agree but the person urcool seems to be talking about (if he is real) seems to be an average guy and he didn't mention any family problems or such which would definitely make a difference

What is Ivy ?

www.urcool.com- Since it's incredibly likely that you've only been on this site for a few days (I'm assuming that if you had known about it earlier, we would have seen this post earlier. That is an assumption, though), who are you to condemn this site or what kind of advice its users give. Most(/hopefully all) users understand that there CAN be people like the person you describe (someone who's upset they didn't get in and is being stupid accordingly). And if you really think that way, don't come here. We don't need you or anyone else to fill up the servers with thoughtless garbage.

^ threads like "Retake a 2300?!?" are garbage too!!!!!!

^lol....these overachievers wreck my nerves.. i would die for a 2300.

Really though no one needs to get a 2300 to get into any university. Really.

Yeah - from empirical examples (from my state at least), if you have strong ECs, a really nice GPA, and good other important stuff (ie essays, recs) you can get to the top schools with a 2000+. Although a high 2100 to 2200 are always helpful.

All CC kids don't know about Ivy admissions??!?!?!?!?

WHAT???

www.Urcool.com wrote:they dont need to go to all colleges...they have a degree....the ppl on this site dont...

Well, personally, I have a BS in Accounting and Finance from Cal State, Long Beach (although I was accepted to Brown, but couldn't afford to go). I also have an MBA in Operations Mgmt with a CIS minor from UCLA. I could go into my background and experience here, but it would come across as bragging so I'll skip it.

So, anyway, you might want to reconsider your comment--

P.S. There are more parents on here like me who are providing a lot of this advice--and the students on here who provide advice tend to be a whole lot smarter about the admissions process than the average student in college, and definitely a lot more knowledgeable about the process than the average high schooler about to apply. Stick around and you might learn something from them--I know I have.

ok but most of them are students not parents or ppl with degrees. and just so u know i have not only been on this site for a few days, i changed my username because i didnt want ppl knowing who i was so so much for what u know.
