My recs are AMAZING.

So my chances at Barnard or any other colleges ?

I’m an african american female who’s also applying to Barnard :)

Haha, anyways, your grades seem to be pretty good and your EC’s convey that your definitely a hard worker. However, there is no clear focus of what you’re interested in. It might help to be specific about your gpa. You’re SAT and ACT scores aren’t anywhere near the median range, but you seem to be a very dedicated person. It’s hard to say how much your URM status and your being first generation will affect your admissions…obviously, these things will help you. Ultimately, I’m pretty sure they’ll excuse the SAT bc of your ECs and recs. I think you have a 50/50 chance. Possibly waitlisted and then in. Good luck :)

where else are you applying? :)

I want a be a lawyer & I used that through out my application.
I am applying to NYU, BC, BU , GW, Tufts and other schools. What are your stats ?
I need help on writing a poem for NYU ? ****s hard

That sounds really cool. We’re in a totally different vain then. I want to do magazine work and stuff like that. My stats? Scoping the competition? Haha, it’s okay, I get it. :)

I think my essays are the strongest part of my application. Writing’s one of my main strengths. I’m fairly sure the things I wrote about are original.

My recs are from teacher that I’ve known for awhile (1 or 2 yrs)…

Potential major: either Art History, or some type of humanities major. Possibly something science-y too, bc I really enjoy chemistry.

Applying to Barnard, wellesley, Syracuse, Smith, Mount Holyoke, and University of Richmond.

Idk, I think that’s it.
You can PM me your poem, if you want. I can critique it. I’m not applying there so it wouldnt affect your chances…

Here is my haiku.

Ethiopian,
Desire, independent
That is simply me.

3 things…

 1. Your new to CC so I’ll give you a heads up. Don’t post your writing on the boards, or your essays, bc someone may steal it and pass it in as their own. I wouldn’t do something like that, but I’m sure there are atleast a few ppl who are desperate.

Hm…I wouldn’t highlight your AA status too much…that may scream Affirmative action to them. But, then again, I wouldn’t know. Check the AA board and see what they think.

3.If your going to do a haiku, it should be more descriptive and it should “breathe” your spirit. It wouldn’t be my personal choice to do a haiku (i feel its really restrictive), but it’s not my application so…and anyway, some ppl write the most beautiful haiku’s, but I’m not really a poet. Look it up on the internet and get inspiration. Or wait it out. Perhaps, you’ll have some blinding epiphane (happens…) that will help you write it. It could be writers block?

NYU seems like they really like creative, expressive types, so reach deep down and write something that is “you” on paper. In my honest, un-sugarcoated opinion, I think that haiku looks like it didn’t take you very long. See your poem through their eyes. Would you be “wowed” by your poem?

Plus, “desire” isn’t an adjective, thus you can’t use that to describe yourself. You could say “hopeful” or “optimistic” just to name a few. Those aren’t synonymous with desire, but you know what I mean. :)

I hope I don’t come off as mean. I just thought you would want me to be totally honest.

inconspicuous.s.n.
hey, i am also apply to barnard and my SAT score is better than my ACT and I saw that you didn’t list any SAT subjects, so does this mean you only sent your SAT I score to them? I was wondering if I could send my ACT with writing along with my SAT I because the school requests SAT with 2 subjects OR ACT with writing, but my SAT is way better so I want them to see it!

Oh! I totally forgot!
My subjects were all 670+.
You’re required to send either your SAT + 2 SATII’s, or your ACT w/ writing. However, if you’re sending your SAT, it must be coupled with 2 subject tests. You can’t make your own mix, I don’t think.

Send both. They’ll do the mixing for you. (i.e. if you SAT scores are good and your subject test scores are bad and your ACT is in between, they’ll consider your SAT and subjects from the ACT).
