Hey, I am debating whether or not to take chem 4b this semester and maybe go straight into chem 135. I recently transferred into the college of chem and I was wondering if chem 4b was something that was really necessary. Or well, I guess i'm asking...did you get anything important out of it?

The class wouldn't be taught if it wasn't important.

I'm not a chem major, but I'm taking 4b right now. Judging by the syllabus, there is a fair share of biochem covered. Is it not a required class for the college of chem?

The chem 4A-4B series is designed for students majoring in a chemistry-related field. What chem classes have you taken before? Are you sure you can skip it? I think the chem 1a-1b-5 series is equivalent to 4a-4b but they prefer you to take the 4 series if your major is chemistry intensive.

i'm a chemistry major, so i know that yes, chem 4b is required, especially if you only took chem 1a, which i would assume since you just transferred into the college. the labs for chem 4b require you to use quantitative analysis, which the chem 1a labs do not include. if you want to major in chemical biology, and you have not taken two semesters of general chem elsewhere, they're not gonna let you skip out on that...or at least it will be a struggle to do so.

thanks, i decided to stay
