Attention-deficit disorder?

I’m a junior and I was just recently diagnosed with a rather severe case of attention-deficit disorder. While some might dispute the reality of a diagnosis like ADD, I truly believe that it has impaired my ability to perform well in high school. Unfortunately, as the diagnosis has come so late in my high school career, irreparable damage has already been done to my GPA. You might ask why the ADD went undiagnosed for 11 years of my education if it is such a severe case. My mom thinks that I’ve been compensating all these years. I’ve never been one to make excuses, so herein lay the question: do I disclose to colleges the diagnosis of ADD? I know that a lot of people brush off the disorder, as everyone seems to have it these days, but at the same time, I don’t want my low GPA (in contrast to my extremely high test scores) to be attributed to mere laziness.

Lots of good advice there from people who've been where you are and their parents.

I feel your pain. ADD is a real disorder, and I think you should report it to colleges. Don't make it sound like you're using it as an excuse, I'd suggest just letting them know and let them take it as they will.

Hang in there.
