Now we all know that engineering students study a lot more than most of the other majors in college. Sometimes, I even hear that they even don't have any time to go out on weekend nights. Is this true ?? Is it just study study study eat study study sleep study study and study ?
Engineering students !! What does your average weekday/weekend consist of ?

well i'm not an engineering student but many of my high school friends are.

What they tell me is that you can easily go out and socialize on most weekends but there WILL be that stretch of one or two weekends when you simply have too much work. During those times, be prepared to stay in even if the party of the century is going on outside.

It's not really the major as much as the effort and dedication you're willing to put in to school.

Depends on the day and weekend, but yes your free time is gone. There is really little time for parties. This is the case if your really try to do awesome and get the best possible grades. You can just kind of go with the flow and do decent and have tons of free time but it will hurt you in the end.

I am an engineering student (biomed) and I am not looking to fall semester sophomore year. That's all I can say :)

We party all the time... with books and problem sets.

there was an interesting article about this in an industry newspaper.

There's a sense among students of, 'Why should I stay? My friends are studying half as long as me and having a better time,' " said Ray Almgren, vice president of product strategy for National Instruments (Austin, Texas), which is working with the University of Texas on an educational overhaul. "This is an issue that all engineering schools have to deal with."

Cornell Engineer... I go out every weekend, it's no big deal at all.

my friend who studies mechanical engineering is a pothead, and is doing well!

I find that extremely hard to beleive.

Mech E here and i had loads of free time. There will be time to go out on weekends, i promise :).

any EEs care to speak up about their free time?

and could people post what college they go to as well? im sure the workload at a state school is much different than MIT...

Embry-Riddle Aerospace Engineering sophomore:

There are some times I'm swamped with work, but I have yet to have a weekend that I cannot at least go out to eat and hang with friends a few hours each day. It is all about time management: don't wait until the last minute to do assignments, get help as soon as you need it, and sometimes you just have to pick and choose what subjects to concentrate your time on more.
