Attention: Regarding Trolls

Recently the issue of trolls has arisen. Below is a short Q and A I threw together to help the community deal with these guys.

Q: What are trolls?
A: Trolls are those pesky little creatures who post with the intent of annoying people or disrupting the regular flow of communication.

Q: Woah. How rude! What can I do about these trolls?
A: The most reliable method of dealing with trolls is to contact the appropriate authorities and have it removed. While it can be tempting, please do not feed the trolls.

Q: Huh?! What does “feed the trolls” mean and why shouldn’t I do it?
A: Trolls feed on attention, annoyance, and anger. Eating such things is their sole means of survival. Showing annoyance and anger towards the ■■■■■, or providing the ■■■■■ with any attention or acknowledgement, is essentially feeding the ■■■■■.

Feeding trolls causes a number of problems including, as mentioned previously, survival on the part of the ■■■■■. Moreover, the ■■■■■ will excrete its feces all over an otherwise useful thread or the main forum.

So, above all, please do not feed the trolls. Alert the authorities and ignore the ■■■■■ until the poor critter either starves to death or is removed from our midst.

Point well taken. Besides you never know when a troll is simply somebodies little sister or brother messing with the computer when no one is around. Who needs to get into it with a little kid?

Regarding that troll. I told you all that simply reporting his posts as offensive would be enough. Look in the "Alumni Event" post. He's gone. IF he does post again, just report it and don't post in it.

As expected, he was dealt with by the moderators. I made this thread before he was removed to inform people to ignore the poor guy (and potential future trolls) and wait until the moderators removed him, as their responses were surely encouraging him to continue his idiocy. You were definitely right, reporting the offensive post was definitely instrumental in getting him removed.

What should I do if confronted by a Oaf?

Oafs are harmless as long as you don't use complex language around us.
