ATTENTION: studends applying to CCM or DAAP

If you are applying to Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music (CCM) or to their School of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning (DAAP), you should have your application completed by DECEMBER 1 if you want guaranteed consideration!

This means that all transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, applications, and references should be submitted and received by University of Cincinnati by December 1. Thus, you really need to start the process early. Also double check with the university that they got all that they need. You would be surprised how many schools don't get a needed item such as the transcript or SAT scores even though you may have requested that they be sent in very early on in the process.

Taxguy - It's also important to note that those wanting EARLY ACTION need to submit ASAP ! This is from the link below for the admissions requirements @UC....there is further/similar info on that page regarding the interior design and architecture rqmts also. I do believe the webpage needs updated to reflect the upcoming 2007 rqmts so I STRONGLY encourage interested students to contact UC directly. http://www.daap.uc.edu/admissions/standards.php

"1) Early Action (Automatic Admission):
On a first come, first serve basis, a limited number of applicants to Digital, Graphic, Industrial
Design–Design Track, and Industrial Design–Transportation Track will be offered admission under
Early Action if they submit a complete application* and satisfy the following minimum standards:
ACT of 25 or an SAT of 1130. These minimum test scores require a class rank of
at least top 10% or an unweighted GPA of 3.75. Higher test scores allow for a
lower class rank, e.g., an ACT of 30 or an SAT of 1320 requires a class rank of
top 35% or an unweighted GPA of 3.75.....On a first come, first serve basis, a limited number of applicants to Fashion Design–Design Track
and Fashion Design–Product Development Track will be offered admission under Early Action if
they submit a complete application* and satisfy the following minimum standards:
ACT of 24 or an SAT of 1090. These minimum test scores require a class rank of
at least top 25% or an unweighted GPA of 3.75. Higher test scores allow for a
lower class rank, e.g., an ACT of 28 or an SAT of 1250 requires a class rank of
top 45% or an unweighted GPA of 3.75.
Applicants who meet these criteria and who are not among the initial selection for Early Action will
be pooled and reviewed for Final Selection in December.
2) Final Selection (Pooled Admission):
Applicants for Digital, Graphic, Industrial Design–Design Track, and Industrial
Design–Transportation Track who meet the criteria stated above and who are not selected for
Early Action will be pooled and reviewed for Final Selection decision. They will be reviewed along
with additional applicants who submit a complete application*

Thanks Hardknox, my experience with Cincinnati is that these are minimum requirements. Students will need a bit higher scores for early acceptance.

My D toured the UC Architecture Department in August before her senior year and was told to get her application in ASAP if she was interested, as most of the spaces were already filled. One of the informational brochures that she brought home gave a timeline for interested h.s. students starting in their freshman year with visits to DAAP June student shows, etc.

When is the application for the following year available? Must be pretty early in the summer if all the spots are almost taken by August! I have a hs junior daughter who is planning to visit the school of Architecture and, if she likes it, will likely apply there. She would be a freshman in fall 2008.

Not all spots are taken by August. That is a myth. However, I would strongly suggest that all parts of the application be dealt with so that UC gets everything by November 1 AT THE LATEST and preferably by October 1. This will take some coordination with the high school and with the standardized testing services. I don't know why UC wants everything done so early, but it is just the way that they work.

I also recommend that if you have a good portfolio, send it on slides or pictures or send copies of the portfolio, nicely presented, to the admission's office. They may not require portfolios, but a strong one might make a difference if there is a close call for admission.

Not every architecture spot, but most were filled when D toured (8/05) and she was told by the director to apply quickly if interested. Looks like the earlier the better. D's friend hurried to get her application for architecture in by the end of September 2005 at the request of DAAP. I would deal directly with DAAP for complete information.

This should answer some questions:

* Early Action (Automatic Admission): On a first come, first served basis, up to 50 candidates will be off ered admission under Early Action if they have submitted a complete** application and satisfy the following minimum standards: ACT of 30 or SAT of 1320, and class rank in the top 30% or unweighted GPA of 3.75. Applicants who meet these criteria and who are not among the fi rst 50 selected for Early Action will be pooled and reviewed for Final Selection in December.

 • Final Selection (Pooled Admission): Applicants who meet the criteria stated above and who were not selected for Early Action will be pooled and reviewed for Final Selection decision. They will be reviewed along with additional applicants who submit a complete** application by 5:00 pm on December 1st, and who satisfy the following minimum standards: ACT of 26 or SAT of 1170, and class rank in the top 15% or unweighted GPA of 3.50. Higher test scores allow for a lower class rank, e.g., ACT of 30 or SAT of 1320 requires class rank in the top 35% or unweighted GPA of 3.50.

Consideration of the applicants' Personal Statements and Statements of Co-curricular Activities will be factored into the admissions decisions of those who are pooled for Final Selection. All applicants will be notifi ed of Final Selection decisions by December 31. Applications received after December 1st will be considered on a space available basis.

All candidates who meet the criteria stated above, but who are not admitted through Early Action or Final Selection will be considered for Pre-Architecture admission.

Ellis, I should note that particularly for Architecture, the statistics that you provided above are miniumums. Candidates may need higher scores or GPAs for early acceptance.

Sorry for typo. Miniumums should have said, "minimums."

Eillis - Does your daughter attend?
taxguy - wondering if this is more of a commuter campus?

BG, not really a commuter campus. Most freshmen are required to live on campus where possible. After the freshmen year, many live in off campus appartments, but they do participate in campus activities, sports events etc. Although there certainly are commuters, I wouldn't call this a commuter campus per se.

However, don't forget, after the sophomore year, a large number of kids are on coops; thus, they are away from campus on jobs.

Taxguy: you are probably right about the scores. I just copied their web info.
BG: no my daughter didn't apply. I'd love it if she had.
