Hey well i had some questions about the social aspect of the school. I’ve only heard stereotypical comments which i guess really havent been confirm and i was wondering if the students can clear things up

USC is predominantly white, minorities like Asians will find it difficult to adjust to the social atmosphere

Girls and guys at USC are almost all like models who are superficial and self absorb

I’m havent visited the school but these are some of the things i heard

Definitely. I myself, am a ridiculously good looking model. I think everyone else is just jealous of me, so they say I’m self absorbed, so don’t mind them.

Someone at USC told me similar things about UCLA. They mentioned:

UCLA is predominantly Asian, minorities like white people will find it difficult to adjust to the social atmosphere of Starcraft and Pink Berry

Girls and guys at UCLA are nothing like models but still manage to be superficial and self absorbed.

I love stereotypes.

^^ , haha i heard about #1 for UCLA too, but i heard girls and guys at UCLA are supposedly hot also

Truth: According to the profiles on the website…

Caucasians are in the minority at USC. Only 48% of students are caucasian (white). Roughly 28-30% of the students are Asian. There are many Pacific Islanders at SC, particularly Hawaiians. Students come from 100 countries. The country that sends the greatest number of students is China/Hong Kong as far as international students. Princeton Review rates SC as one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation.

From what I have seen in department videos, easily available on YouTube, is that SC students are extremely diverse. Parents on this board remark their “children” at the university have friends from all ethnic groups.

About 65% of the students are on financial aid. That was a figure from last year. With these uncertain times that figure may have gone up dramatically for 2009.

As at other private universities such as Vanderbilt, Duke, and SMU you will find many good looking students. SC has some as well. To think that nearly every student at SC is fit to be a model is ridiculous.

Go to the USC website: [USC - University of Southern California](http://www.usc.edu) . Click on Viterbi School of Engineering. On that site are posted many graduation snapshots. These are not “set up” photos. Decide for yourself.

To all who are wondering about social life, you will find your type of kids at USC. It’s a big school with diverse majors, many pre-professional. Who do you think majors in computer game design? Game-loving kids. Who populates Roski? SCA (Film School)? Theatre School? Artists, Film-lovers, Actors. If you want to do community outreach, there are so many clubs for that. It’s just the fact of life at a large and vibrant university in a liberal city like L.A. that you’ll find literally all kinds of kids. The top honor students who have turned down Stanford and Duke and Berkeley are here, too. If those are your peeps, you’ll find them at USC. You may need to peek out of your shell and get involved in activities that draw your crowd, but don’t worry. They are so welcoming when you show up to that first raquetball club meeting, or first a capella audition, or ski club trip.

No matter how scary it may seem to take this next step, you will do just great. There are future best friends waiting at USC. If you doubt this, just look back through the posts of the kids who applied here and were accepted. In most cases, you felt close to them as you went through the crazy status-update phase. And I doubt you cared or noticed what their ethnic backgrounds were. They were just future-Trojans.

I’ve been thinking a bit about the social aspect too. You know how the media presents California stereotypes with The OC and 90210 and all…
People at USC aren’t all rich spoilt snobs, right? Just to be sure. :P

I visited USC earlier this year and trust me, not everyone looks like they’re from an episode of The OC. USC has one of the most diverse student bodies in the U.S. so there are tons of cultures and different types of people.

Gameaholic and spongebodge, YOU are admitted students to USC. So the “people” at USC you are wondering about include students just like YOU. Are YOU rich spoilt snobs??? Do YOU look like models??? Are YOU self-absorbed???

Not too many students reply to these threads - they get a bit frustrated with people who think TV programs like “The OC” and “90210” accurately represent ANYTHING, let alone the student body of USC.

Re-read Georgia Girl’s information - on this thread and the many other great posts she has made - as well as this post from Moss http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/675035-usc-reputation-its-rising.html#post1062094892 (post #3) for some information about what the students at USC - students just like YOU - are like.
