AP classes are NOT a big deal.

Everyone applying to top colleges takes them.

They're not special.

That is all. <3 ^_^

You lie! They make me very special. Very special indeed.

Note to everyone: Nothing you do is a big deal... college's don't care. Everyone's extra-curriculars suck. AP classes are the bane of human existence. It is impossible to get into any university.

That is all.

It's OK. McDonald's loves me.

Nah. It just seems to me that everyone brags and basically forces themselves to take AP courses. It's just kind of dumb. Take whatever you want, and not just because it has "AP" in front of it or "honors." Have you see the thread about the courses that make you speacial? Half of them are about AP Cal or Chem or whatever. I'm like, umm w/e.

You must remember that this is a forum of prestige whores who want nothing but oversubscribed colleges that have insane competition from their name brand value to the American public (the parents) who think that top college = advancement in social class for me and kid = greater wealth = better marriage prospects and so forth as it is in most Asian countries.

My future plans include living in a carboard box behind Pamida.

This is true. Though I do feel a lot of people make crap up on this site. Like, "most juniors at my school take multivariable calc!" I was like, umm okay. Why didn't they compete at MIT in Feb for nat'l mathletes or w/e the heck that was. They would of kicked Exeter's ass. That's for sure. Since almost no one here gets to take multivariable calc.

Interesting. I know a 9th grader taht already took AP Calc BC but is only in the 300 series here at Exeter. We don't really have maths, it's just intergrated. AKA there's no clear level of what is "algebra" or "geometry" per se. But people take the AP test after the 400 series.

Now it's starting to make sense!

sadly, i kinda fell into the trap [Calc BC in 10th grade...]

wish i was at exeter.

Exeter math is whack. We dont' use text books. We use books of problems. And that's all. We just do 8 problems a night and learn what a text book would teach use in about a week. it's face paced, but awesome.

you guys do a lot of problem solving stuff (not just straight up technical problems, you apply the technique), right?

i'm just a small fish in a big pond...

I think APs merely help you break that 4.0 GPA cap if you don't take AP classes. I went to this UCI day thing and this guy was triple-majoring in Bio/Chem/Physics. He said that APs do not help at all in college. Passing the AP Lang or Lit waive your assessment test. Other than that, he said that they basically don't help (Foreign Lang, Govt, etc). It was depressing b/c the guy didn't even look like he was enjoying college. He was finishing undergrad in 4 years...and said he only triple-majored b/c he wanted to get his "moneys-worth" out of college.

That's what I heard, though. I partially agree with the guy.

haha, just found out that the AoPs courses aren't free, or am I overlooking something? Are there any that are free?

Obvs. I can't explain Exeter math. We just don't get taught by the teacher and we don't have text books. That's all I can really say.

Well, most colleges see that a monkey that reads the "AP Study Guide!!!!1!lol" can pass the test. I dunno. Exeter offers like 13 APs while some schools offer like 35.

My school offers a grand total of 0 AP classes. I've never taken a single one. But then again we are essentially forced to do IB diploma programme.

Actually, Many of the elite private boarding do not even offer AP classes. Why? Because AP classes, imo, have really been dumbed down. Many Top universities and colleges are now not even crediting AP classes because they have been dumbed down so much. A while back, only the intelligent could take AP classes. Now, any Dumb Dumb can take an APs. Ap classes are for squares!
