Attitude

So I already am anticipating the responses to this that are like "ugh just suck it up" haha but I'm looking for people that maybe can relate!

For some reason, due to some Junioritis probably and an overall laziness that has recently plagued my life, I am slightly incapable of studying. And when I do study, my mind is somewhere else. When I get questions wrong, I just think "wth, you knew that....just don't make the mistake during the real test...." and stuff like that. Very complacent attitude.

The critical reading is especially hard for me to study (and my worst section) because I can't concentrate.

I feel so unfocused lately and I don't know what to do! Any tips? May 7 is coming up so fast (depressingly, it is also my birthday....)

omg same… I don’t know how to help… but I have the same problem. Junioritis and I have like…a week and a half to review of year of AP psych that IO barely paid attention through. and I just started now to start self studying for ap enviro… and I have the sat subject test in may… and sat in june. andm y critical reading sucks…badly.

Haha same exact situation. Except no AP psych…and switch the subject tests and SAT. Critical reading is so damn hard. And I read a LOT…I guess not thoroughly…

CR is actually not that bad once you find out what your looking for, try reading the passage piece by piece. I use to get 460s on my CR practice tests but after a few runs and help from my friend I was able to boost that score up to the mid 500s in a short period of time.

Critical reading was also my toughest section.

I had mid-600s over the summer and struggled to stay above 700 as late as fall. However, I continued practicing consistently (I’d take one full test each weekend), and eventually (miraculously) scored an 800 in March! I find it much easier to focus during the SAT because I’m nervous and forced to think within a certain time limit. I hope that gives you a bit of hope.

Practice is key. If this is your worst section, dedicate 25 (or 20)min each night to take one section. I developed my own method for going through passages and vocab based on mistakes I had made and on how my brain processes information (I had to stop after every line reference to answer the question first). As you practice, you might find a method that will suit you  Although I never studied vocab exclusively, practicing sentence completions helped me recognize what ETS is looking for and be able to analyze the roots in unfamiliar words.

Also, try to identify where you struggle most. I realized I felt the greatest time crunch/lack of focus on the section with two un-paired passages, so I practiced those more.

I hope I didn’t just repeat a lot of what you’ve heard before.

Here’s the important part for you, it seems: if you want to be able to focus on studying, make sure to time yourself! Have someone time you if you can’t enforce it yourself. Hopefully that’ll help you focus a bit more because there’s added pressure. If you can’t find the time to practice because of laziness, make a timetable for yourself. Plan out what work you do at what time and try to get it done as efficiently as possible in that allotted time. If you don’t finish in that time, move on and maybe go back to it later. Be generous with this. It’s very hard to follow these timetables exactly. Leave some time at the end of each night to catch up. This ensures that you will have time to practice a little bit each day.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
And maybe collegeboard will give you a nice present :)

Thirteen days remaining for the SAT and I still fall asleep at least in one section some how during all my practice tests! I get lethargic with the CR section. Eventually, I end up losing few points due to the lack of acute concentration. Any thing I could do to stay focussed for the entire test?

Thanks for the tips :)

CR is okay for me, nothing to fuss about except for the part which I’ve said in the previous post.
