Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows whether Jewish kids might face certain social difficulties at some small conservative Southern colleges like U. of the South and Hampden-Sydney. Not as in religiously observant or even traditionally Jewish, but with an obviously Jewish last name and background nonetheless. Are there even any Jewish students at those schools?

Thanks!

While I don’t think that you would encounter overt antisemitism at Hampden-Sydney, I do think you should note that the vast majority of students there are very much white, Christian, and conservative and very proud of it.

I guess it’s worth noting that I am very conservative myself, and although I’m from the Northeast I don’t fit the yankee liberal stereotype at all. So really my question is, would a Jewish last name cause social issues even if accompanied by Southern conservative views and traditional lifestyle.

Visiting the college yourself and feeling the campus vibe would a better idea

I think as long as you fit the mold -Southern values, conservative outlook - you won’t run into problems.

you’ll be fine unless you’re going to europe, and even then anti-semitism is rare.

someone’s gonna post that video of a single ucsd student in an attempt to prove me wrong, i can feel it.

Sewanee is a known Episcopalian school. Episcopalians are, perhaps, the most welcoming and open of the christian faiths. That shouldn’t be a problem.
