It seems 4-digs have lost cell priviliges. Is this throughout the Academy in preparation of recognition? Or, is it limited to a few squardrons? (S is in 39). Was it recognition or because of something else? Any info would be appreciated. I know this isn’t a typical CC topic! I assume going on line is still possible.

Must be his squadron or group. We still have ours over here in first group (first group first! ya!). I'm surprised we do, but, we do.

Wait wait wait...first group has their phones and fourth group doesn't??? That's a new one...

Anyways, I can speak for my squadron at least, we have had our phones taken away, and our training officer told us it has come down from wing staff, so it should be everyone. I'm pretty sure all of 4th group has lost theirs (which is a first...darn you first group! :P)

However, a couple guys in my squad are protesting and our training staff, I believe, is taking it up with group and wing staff...since they have literally given us no reason as to why they're taking it, and also because there are a lot of safety implications about not having a phone.

At least there's only 2 weeks left...

It was in a "recognition ramp-up" MFR (official letter). Although, I have not heard of many squads enforcing the MFR...which is strange...I have to wonder if the MFR was not offical for the entire wing.

Soon (9-12 days) this will all be over...you can wear your backpacks, listen to music, and enjoy life with an identity. Hold on and ride the wave to the end.

cell phones are supposed to be weekend only wing-wide, but its up to the squadron to enforce it. our squad just trusts us not to use them, while some took them completely

Some confusion but I think i got it. Thanks for the help guys!

argh! As of tonight I lose my cell phone. :( It finally trickled down here, and cut us some slack, that first group SAMI was beyond brutal!

On the bright side, I only use my phone on Sundays anyways, so its not a big change, I just like knowing I can use it.

Does this mean that 4-digs are no longer allowed to use a cell at all? Even on weekends? How else are we supposed to talk to our family?

Only on weekends for until Saturday or Sunday the weekend of the 17th. (Two weekends basically).

When you go to basic you won't see your phone again until parent's weekend. So, you can survive. Once the academic year starts you have e-mail, before that letters. Yes, you can survive when it takes 3-5 days for the snail mail to travel. What do you think people did 10 years ago before cell phones were widely use? ;)

You're right, it wont be that bad. And even if it is; I suppose that's why I want to attend the academy so desperately; because it will be difficult in many ways. Thanks for the info :)

lol, now I'm in eagle36's boat. My training officer decided he didn't want to hold on to all our phones due to the Group 1 open doors policy. So, we get to keep them, but only to use when "ABSOLUTELY necessary." Yay.

with the cell phone thing, after a while you really don't use them that often. its more of a novelty to have than it is to use. you can easily live without it. it saves you a lot of time, actually

Note to parents: your s/d cell phone will be confiscated on I-day. Bring it with you on parents weekend which is when they will (generally) be allowed to have them. Also, no PC's during BASIC so start writing snail mail EVERY DAY -- they will desperately need it. Parents day is the time to start emailing. Be ready to buy your s/d a printer on that day as well!!

Note the reason for the printer is interesting: if they don't have one, they will have to use the printer for their squadron which means walking up to the cadre on duty which means, well, I'll let the 4-digs on this board tell you....;) Result: get 'em a printer for their room!

As a side note on cell phones - you wouldn't believe the negative response from alumni when 2007 got cell phone priviledges immediately after BCT. It was like the sky was falling. Then again, it wasn't 2007 that caused "The Agenda For Change" that felt having cell phones would make it easier to prevent another sex scandal. So it isn't such ancient history that cell phones were not allowed by 4 digs at all - and of course it's only been in the last 10-15 years that cell phones became the norm anyway.

Aside from having to walk to the CQ desk...which can be an ordeal in some squads...the squadron printers are notorious for running out of paper at the worst times.
