I just wanted to get an idea of who are/will be working part-time while going to school and what jobs you guys are/will be holding while in college. How many hours do/will you work in a given week? This can go for those of you who either plan to start working when you transfer or are already working.

Have any of you worked as a front desk clerk at a hotel?

How about a runner for an office?

I have two part time jobs: 9-10 hours/week tutoring an autistic child and 12-18 hours as a "customer service representative" (it's a performing arts theatre). The previous semesters I've had 12-14 units, but I'm being stupid this semester by taking 18 units. I procrastinate a lot, so that means I don't get any work done.

Well, it was easier to get away with doing no work previously, but it's gotten harder now, I suppose.

In your opinions, do you guys think that working 25hrs/week (or perhaps even more) + 12 units is too much?

"In your opinions, do you guys think that working 25hrs/week (or perhaps even more) + 12 units is too much?"

I say "yes". This is coming from someone who has no life to begin with. :)

Edit:
I also think it'd be doable depending on your work ethic. For example, I have no work ethic whatsoever and even if I had less units and/or worked less, I'd still be in the same state I am now. :(

nikkei325i, is that what you're doing right now?

"In your opinions, do you guys think that working 25hrs/week (or perhaps even more) + 12 units is too much?"

Depends on how hard your job is (at my last job working at the cinema I could do my homework at work) and how hard your clases are. Start off with 20 hours a week and work your way up (or down).

I know this guy in my current biology course who is taking 22 semester units while running an ebay business as well as working as a economics tutor in school. He is also maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Impressive!

Well, here is the story. I got a referral from my sister to work at this law firm in OC this past summer. It turns out that I actually enjoyed the work since the lawyer has a concentration in real estate which is what I intend on studying in law school. The drawback of working there is the work load is pretty heavy. Now this was in the summer. I plan on going back there to work about 25hrs/week this semester to gain more experience and save up some money for my trip this coming summer. I've never worked this kind of job before while concurrently being a full-time student. Perhaps I should look for another job? The lawyer said that I can come back in the summer. I think it would be best to do just that.

They can't be more flexible than 25 hours/week? Or do they definitely need someone to work that amount or hours (no more and especially no less)? Have you ever held a job while in school at the same time before? I don't know what you're doing at the law firm for it to be such a heavy work load. I can only imagine being an assistant; making photo copies and faxing papers... :)

I make photo copies and fax papers in addition to revising contracts, answering phones, etc. They way I explain it does not sound that tough but the secretary that I will be working with said that the lawyer gives you tons of things to do at once. You have to be fast-paced and be able to multi-task. I have held a job while in school before but never a job like this. I was just worried that my grades will slip.

I do 35 hours a week with 18 credits, it sucks but you learn to prioritize and function with little or no sleep.
