This is an absolutely amazing program that gives you some real insight about engineering at Maryland. I HIGHLY recommend it!! However, space IS limited, and it’s first-come, first-serve…so pick a date and sign up now! The sign up is via the page I gave link for at the top
Engineering Preview Programs will be on Thursday, March 8 and Thursday, April 6, 2017.
This is a great opportunity to go beyond the open house events and to talk with many undergraduate engineering students and staff representing a wide range of programs.
The schedules for Thursday, March 8 and Thursday, April 6, 2017 are as follows:
5:00 pm Registration
5:00 - 6:00 pm Mix and mingle/Kim Building Tours
6:00 - 6:45 pm Women in Engineering Reception/VIRTUS Information Session
7:00 - 9:00 pm Student Panel
7:00 - 9:00 pm Parent Information Session
Current students will share their experiences during a student panel, while parents will have an opportunity to meet with staff and students in a parents-only forum.
This event precedes the Spring Open Houses on Friday, March 9 and Friday, April 7 offered by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. During all Spring Open Houses, you will meet with one of the 8 engineering departments to learn more about the majors, classes, and research available.
Thank you for this info! The link for March 8th doesn’t seem to be working yet (message is “Sorry, but this form is not accepting submissions just yet.”) but I’ll try again over the next few days.
There is a March 10th admitted student’s day - do you know how that would differ from the Spring Open House on March 9th? I actually can’t find the registration link for the March 9th open house. Finding the UMD website/resources to be super confusing!!
Yeah, I saw that - but they just updated the page with 2017 dates, so I’m sure they will update the link to sign up very soon - keep checking daily. Since the Engineering Preview Program (EPP) is a Thursday, I’m thinking the 8th may be a typo and it should be the 9th?
Spring Open House?
So the Admitted Student Open House enrollment is found here https://ouaapp.umd.edu/eva/admitted/AdmittedStudentOpenHouses?
There are 4 dates - March 3, March 10, March 31, and April 7
The Admitted Student Open House is for ALL students and gives all kinds of info about the school itself, all the majors, LLP/housing communities. It does include a session about engineering (one of many sessions throughout a very full day), but it is a shorter session that is mostly an overview hosted by administrators with a few student “ambassadors” from what I remember.
In contrast, the EPP is very extensive/detailed info only about engineering, nothing else, one of the breakout sessions was a Q & A with a full student panel, tours of labs, etc.
When I took my son (going on 5 years ago now), I signed him up for both the EPP and Admitted Student Open House the next day. He did an overnight program with a student host the evening between EPP and the open house the next morning. http://reslife.umd.edu/osp/http://reslife.umd.edu/osp/faq/
Looks like the dates coordinate to allow that this year also. The overnight is even more limited because they rely on student hosts to open up their dorm room for this, so def jump on that early/asap as well…
Fwiw, I remember staying in the Hampton Inn on Route one by the IHOP and that was decent. Hope that answers your questions…? Feel free to let me know if you need anything clarified more…
