What was the reason for picking your major?

I chose Poli Sci because I am passionate about politics and because I want to go to law school. I just cant wait to take some Poli Sci courses at USC!!! ;)

I just think it's a very interesting subject since government is one of those things that really does affect everyone and pretty much everything in some way.

Oh yeah, and the Law School thing.

Nice. It seems like the majority of those who are Poli Sci majors go directly to law school after they receive their BA/BS.

Yup, Im one of those too!

same reasons as ijflexi for me

Here's the next question then--why do you want to go to law school? Why do you want to get a law degree?

I don't want to become a lawyer. I'm hoping to get a job with the FBI...

Got it..,..

Because I'm really interested in Law. The history of it, its current impact on the world, etc, etc. I don't want to be a trial lawyer necessarily, though. I'm trying to figure out how to combine my passions into one profession, so right now I'm looking at Entertainment Law, Immigration Law or International Law. There are just so many things you can do with it.

I want to practice law for the rest of my life. I would love to end up as Solicitor General of the U.S. or a Federal Judge.

ijflexi-why?

I find the position of Solicitor General to be of the utmost respectful and important. the SG argues the majority of fed govt involved cases in the SCOTUS. I find the SG to be literally one of the most important posistions in the country. I'd say I would love to be appointed to the SCOTUS but too many skles in the closet hehe. Next best thing a federal judge. Constitutional Law is where its at for me. Another possibility wold be to move back to where I grew up and run for the US house in my district. Although I am def into politics I dont know if it is something I would be willing to embrace personally as a job.;)

Cool--do you have pocket Constitutions like I do? hah

Do you have experience in stuff like College Democrats or College Republicans? I encourage you to check it out if not.

BOO you PoliSci majors! It's all about the life science majors!

Yes I always carry a pocket Constitution. I have quite a big of exp with political org's. I am the youngest member of 2 Liconln Clubs. (google them.) I also served as Chairman of region 9 for CALSaCC. Pres of the Republican caucus of the California Student Senate....now heres the BIG bummer!!! I did all of this at my first CC, which believe it or not I encountered so much opposition that somehow my transcripts were COMPLETELY screwed up, not to mention a few library books I checkedout somehow never got checked in when I retunred them, a few tunred into 15 and somehow I owed them over 6k for these books!! haha its a LOONG story. Bottom line I learned a lesson.

When in classes, or even at a CC you must walk a fine line when being politically active. Let them win the battles.....when you transfer you can begin to win the war. This was a lesson I have barely learned. Thats why I am not active in any CC bases EC'S at my current CC. Buckle down get good grades and transfer out. My bad experience was not only with professors, I had even more trouble with the administration. I dont want to get too specific but heres on example..

In my first Poli Sci class which was Intro to Amer Govt, I had a very liberal lesbian professor. Which is completely fine with me... well while we were discussing the polling process/elections..it was the 2002 mid terms. I told her I would not be able to attend my Tuesday class, in which we were taking a mid-term, because I had vouluntered as a poll watch captain for a specific precint. She not only encouraged me to do it, and told me I could make up the test no problem, she offered me extra credit to speak to the class about my experience. So I go and do the work, and get back to the next class and she asks me to get up and she tells the class... "Mr.Smith here volunteered last weed as a polling captain for the re-election efforts of Gov.Gray Davis, and the Democratic Party..." I said excuse me, I actually was working for the RNC, and was working closely with Bill Simon, she bout crapped her pants...basically didnt let me speak, and after class when I asked her when I could take the makeup test she acted like she had NO IDEA what I was talking about. Midterm= 35% of grade. You get the picture....

If anyone would like to hear about my exp with the Administration feel free to ask.

"Our aim is simple: Elect Republicans and defeat as many Democrats as possible."

The Orange County Lincoln Club (not speaking for all of them, this is the only one I found thus far...I think I'll stop looking) sounds pretty ignorant to me. It is pretty easy to see why you might be the youngest member of this right-wing organization. It's also pretty easy to see why your teacher crapped her pants.

Easy to see yet is it easy to accept as rationale behavior for a CC professor? And yes I am a right winger..point is??? And what is ignortant about embracing a particular ideology? lets not turn this thread into a lib vs con debate please. And about me being the youngest member....lets see when I attend the monthly luncheons, I sit with the CEO of Boeing, past CA gv Pete Wison, and SEC chairman Chris Cox...thats who I sit with....I wont even talk about the other 18+ tables. Point being. Networking. Networking. Networking.

New Question: What area of Political Science are you guys going to concentrate on?

Political Theory
International Relations
American Politics
Comparative Politics
Methodology
(any more?)

As for me, I am leaning towards Political Theory.

I didn't accept your teacher's behavior as rational*, but I can see why she would act that way.

I didn't say you were a right-winger. I said the organization was. Although I would tend to assume that you were a right-winger.

The organization is a pro-Republican organization. That is not an ideology, that is a platform.

I never said I was a liberal, and you never conceded that you were a conservative.

Since conservatives, in general, tend to be older, I made the comment about you being the youngest. It had nothing to do with you wasting your time or networking with every CEO in the world.

If you are networking with these people, that's wonderful. It will help you down the road.

Good luck on the comprehensive portion of your LSAT.
