I’d like to congratulate both of you on being accepted into the Kogod School of Business. Having been elected President of the Undergraduate Business Association (Kogod Student Council) I welcome any questions you may have about the school, our activities and any changes you could look forward to seeing next year about your experience at Kogod.

@ckingston9 - I was admitted as a transfer to kogod but haven’t visited yet to see what the school is like. Could you tell me some pros/cons of the kogod building? Also how would you compare the program to GWU which is the other business program in DC I expect to be admitted to. I’m planning on studying finance and hopefully want to get into S&T or asset management. Also how involved do you get being on the business student council? I was president of my student body and am currently the appointed student member of my business college’s board of advisors and want to maintain my direct active involvement in my school and representing business students.

@Kulakai

The Kogod building, in all honesty, is a fantastic building.

It has everything you could possibly need, state of the art classrooms, wi-fi connection everywhere you go, plenty of break out rooms. a financial service information technology lab with a real time simulated training floor, with I believe 30 state of the art computers. There is also a smaller computer lab for times where the FSIT lab is being used for classes. There are plenty of lounges to sit and study. we have the Kogod Centre for Career Development which is unique to Kogod (at AU) in which it is specifically designated towards Business students to finding jobs, internships, etc. There’s a Centre of Business Communications; where you can go with papers to get them read over and critiqued and also practise your presentations before actually doing them. I can go on and on about the building, because in all honesty, it has everything you could possibly need as a business student.

I am not too familiar with the program at GWU, so I would refrain from commenting on that as to not say something which may not be true.

Involvement is everything you make of it. I have been on the student council for 2 years now, finally getting to President for the upcoming year, so I know its short comings and its successes. One of my major plans is to create much more student involvement, because up to today while the UBA creates plenty of events, its usually the same people creating them. I will be looking at creating a committee for every specialization and have the committee in charge of creating at least 5 events throughout the year. I will be pushing for involvement from the student body and having them be the foundation of the program, rather than have it rest on a select group of people.

If you do decide to visit AU, I invite you to send me a PM and I will be glad to meet with you and personally show you around and talk deeper about my plans for the next year.

I know exactly what you are talking about in regards to event production. You either need committees of students at large or a big budget to just dole out $$ to organizations so they can do events in addition. I think many student government organizations suffer roughly that same problem.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll add you to my contacts on here and shoot you a PM when I head out there for a tour.

I don’t really think I will be attending this fall due to $$$ but here are my stats:
