I was recently accepted and I was wondering the pros and cons of all of the freshman dorms at AU
Thanks!
I would like to know the same
My son has lived in Anderson and Centennial. Anderson was his freshman year and Centennial, this year, his sophomore year. He liked both. Anderson, Letts and Centennial are all attached to each other but they have separate lobbies. Anderson and Letts are traditional dorm rooms but they have these really nice built ins that serve as closet and dresser. Centennial is a suite of two rooms with a shared bathroom. You have to keep your own bathroom clean. The freshman dorms can be loud and at least for the first few months there are lots of kids adjusting to freedom and they can get a little crazy. My son’s friend was in Hughes, the Honors and Scholars dorm, and that was actually worse than the freshman dorms in regards to noise. Things start to settle down after the first month. Hughes is nice and new. You are lucky because your sophomore year, you’ll be able to move into the brand new dorms they built just for sophomores.
I guess it’s a matter of individual perspective. My first year student lives in Hughes Hall, which he says is much quieter and with less drama than the dorms on the south side of campus (like Anderson and Letts). He absolutely loves Hughes and is planning to live there next year, too. If you’re in a special program like Community Based Research Scholars or AU Honors you’ll automatically be housed in Hughes, but others live there too.
Hughes has the same built-ins that rooms in Anderson and Letts have. There’s a good graphic representation of generic first year rooms in the the recently updated (3/28/16) First Year Housing Guide:

May also be a difference of this year and last year. I wish they had the option of quiet dorms.
