Hello, everyone, as the discussion title would suggest, I applied early decision to American University as an International Studies major and I await my decision quite excitingly. This is just intended as a forum for us all to share our experiences, love for AU, and share information regarding decision dates and deadlines. So, good luck everybody!
Hi @Daydreamer2018 My son just submitted his ED1 application. Thanks for creating this thread!
I should have added he applied as a CLEG major.
Hi. Thanks for starting this thread . My son submitted his Ed application last week for international relations . Do you think they’ll be asking for first marking period grades ? My son seems like he’s ending up with a C+ in Ap calculus ( never had a C before !! ) for first marking period … a bit nervous about this .
Anyway , it seems like they heard around December 20-22 last year . Good luck to everyone !
Your son might ask his HS guidance counselor if she knows the answer. It’s a really hard class and only a quarter grade, so I think it will not be a liability for your son. If it were a “fluff” class and a C then there might be cause for worry.
@sahmkc Thanks. I already sent an email to his counselor. Yes , AP calc is really tough . And yes , it’s just one quarter . I can’t imagine it will be his final year grade , but I honestly hate for American to see it . He has a 4.5 weighted gpa and 3.9 unweighted ( before this first marking period ); I hope that grade is not considered too highly .
I submitted my ED1 application last week, does anyone know when we will find out? I know its dec 31 at the latest but will it be much before that?
So @hannahp123 I believe we all should be notified in Dec (Sometime in between the 15th-31st)
@maddiec I would contact his admissions counselor. I do not believe they do so until after the admissions process. I would also like to say to you that I received a C+ in my college majors Inorganic Chemistry course and it is on my transcript. (I am an early college HS student who takes duel enrollment courses.) A C+ in a course of that kind or of your son’s is an impressive achievement considering its difficulty. I for one am not a very strong natural science or mathematics student so the 78 was a tough pull on my part.
So basically props to your son and do not let it alarm you too much. Your son sounds like a hard worker and I am sure if they do look at it that they will see his strength in his other courses and see it as a likely outlier.
@sahmkc I am so happy to hear about your son! Thank you for your advice earlier in the process. I hope to see your son as a member of the class of 2022! Tell him good luck for me!
@Daydreamer2018 thanks for sharing your experiences and words of encouragement . I found out that American does not ask for the first marking period grades but asks for mid year grades , so that is a bit of relief . I look forward to my son meeting you in the fall …and @sahmkc …: as always, thanks for your responses. Hope our boys get to eventually connect !!
@maddiec That’s awesome news! I think 1st quarter grades are not a good representation of what the final grade will be especially if your classes are year long. Sometimes it take a bit to understand how to study for a particular teacher’s tests. I hope our boys can connect too. It would be great for @Dreamer2018, your DS & my DS to know a few people going in! I’m happy to have helped you Dreamer! My fingers are crossed for you both - although I think you & maddiec’s son are very strong candidates! Hopefully we will all be having a celebration in December! Good luck to you too @hannahp123!
My son applied ED, anxiously await December decision
Good Luck! @barbs2354 The waiting is so much harder than the application process.
DD just submitted ED I application today. I’m finishing financial stuff to submit tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Good luck to your daughter @jordanca
I am looking at doing the same for my CSS profile.
Thanks!
Do you all know if it is 11:59 PM tomorrow that is the cut off. This stuff has been the more difficult part of the process.
