AU Merit Scholarships

I’m looking for any type of information that concerns Merit Scholarships at AU, from how to best qualify for the Presidential, Dean’s and Leadership Scholarships to the latest scholarship amount that AU awards.

I’m also particularly concerned with these questions: Does AU put a lot of emphasis on SAT/ACT scores when they assess an applicant for scholarships ? Do ECs play an important role in deciding whether you will get scholarships or not ?

Thank you very much

AU does not publicize its merit scholarship criteria. However a few years ago they did (when my son applied in 2008). I would say sat/act scores and gpa are very important. A few times over the years someone with lower stats post they received the presidential scholarship. For the most part you need high stats.

Yes, on the other forums people also gave similar responses. Thank you very much ma’am

I have a new question on the topic of AU merit scholarships-- if awarded, do the merit dollars displace any need-based aid first, or are they in addition to a need-based aid award?

On the school’s financial aid website it is stated that if an applicant is awarded with a merit scholarship, he or she is still eligible for additional need-based awards to supplement the scholarship in covering the costs of attendance (if you can demonstrate need through FASFA and CSS profile)

There is also a financial aid estimator to help you quantify the amount of aid you might be able to get based on your family income
