USPS informed delivery today shows a small envelope coming from AU so I guess we know what that means. Its fine - DS has options he is happy with.
Saw my rejection/waitlist letter on informed delivery. Oh well I still have some other good options.
for those of you who were admitted did you all get big envelopes? If you see a small envelope does that mean it is a rejection?
Haven’t received a letter in the mail but my portal worked. I am a finalist for the FDDS scholarship so was expecting acceptance - I haven’t heard anything from FDDS/honors yet, though. I believe those decisions come out at a later date… maybe today! For anyone wondering, I have a 32 ACT and a 4.0. My extracurricular are the strongest part of my app though. Good luck everyone!!
@cllg2022 yes, I got a big envelope that contained a folder with some papers/packets about housing, deposits, etc. so it’s fairly large. I’ve heard that the waitlisted envelopes are smaller so I’d imagine rejection envelopes are as well.
If you didn’t get the package yet but got financial aid from the portal could that possibly mean you’re in?
I have a letter in Informed Delivery. Cost appears to be $.47. Anyone know if this will be a rejection or an acceptance?
how are those of you who are getting in to the portal without having the letter doing it?
@cllg2022 - start at American main website - Menu top right, select Login and MyAU portal. Then you will need to register for a new account using the AUID - which should be in previous emails from AU. Use you SSN or DOB etc… and set up the account (if it will let you). I think everyone accepted should be able to activate their MyAU portal by now.
@stepl100 thanks. I just tried and it won’t let me. I also saw a small envelope on Informed Delivery so I guess it’s a rejection. I am surprised but I have other great acceptances and choices. Congrats to everyone who was admitted and to those who were not, don’t let a deferral or denial bring you down. You will find the right place for you. Good luck!
So at this point not being able to make the portal pretty much = rejection?
@StressedTeen2018 hate to say this but if it’s in a normal-sized envelope then it’s almost definitely a waitlist or a rejection… the acceptance packets are in envelopes that are larger than 8 1/2 by 11"
I was able to get in and see that my Son received the Deans Scholarship…Anyone know how to determine if he was accepted to the honors program? No mail received yet. Good luck to all who are still waiting
@jroseduhon Wow… That’s ridiculous. This was supposed to be a safety school. I have a super score of 35 and a GPA of 3.997/4.0 with the hardest course load possible.
Nothing in the USPS email again this morning and no portal. Reality is starting to set in with my son. He has other options but this has been a frustrating week
@11stars to confirm, look under Enrollment Agreement in Eagle Services. There should be a statement that says “congratulations, (your name) on your acceptance to American University!”
@StressedTeen2018 I agree! I have a 33 ACT (35 superscre) and 4.6 wgpa with great ECs and leadership!
My son with great stats was also waitlisted. I think American is less likely to admit students they believe are using them as a safety school.
yeah I have heard about some schools not accepting “overqualified” students, especially ones that don’t demonstrate interest, because they don’t think they’ll end up enrolling and they want to keep their acceptance rate lower so they seem more prestigious, obviously I have no idea if this is why some people that seem like really strong applicants are getting rejected but if it makes you feel any better I had a friend who applied last year who got into Duke but didn’t get into American…
It certainly looks like academic stats and EC were not as important this year. Maybe geography and demographics? We’re in upstate NY and perhaps there are lots of northeasterners already. We were kind of looking forward to visiting the boy in DC
