Au rd 2022

@collegedad2018 have you guys received anything yet? Like you I’m in upstate… haven’t received anything as of now but hopefully we be in mail today

@RB0218 @“Gowna Girl” I’m in MA and my informed delivery shows a letter in today’s mail (so I guess I’m out) but maybe you will get something today. 4.3 GPA / 35 ACT / 3 Subject tests 750-800 / President NHS / 2 varsity sports / 1000+ hours community service. Bummed. Good luck!

@doglover2345 Nothing yet. Nothing in the informed delivery email for today either. We were pretty confident in AU, but that has gone to pessimistic based on the posts here. Kid tried the portal and it didn’t work. He has some good choices but wanted DC.

@olivia42 Do you think it is yield protection or are we just trying to make ourselves feel better? I don’t understand it. I would think that a school would want the best possible students, so for those top students, they should get merit to encourage them to attend. that’s a way to help your yield. Why apply to safety or target schools if you are going to just get rejected? Those are the schools to really consider because the package could work better than what you would get at a reach school. Or guess what? Maybe you just really liked a school where you happen to have better stats. I feel so misguided. I’m at a loss.

I am curious how many of these high stats WLs applied to the Honors program? Given there were several specifics essays, it clearly showed demonstrated interest applying… You will all find your place, be it AU or somewhere else.

@apdns19 It’s a strange year. My son made it to a couple of reach schools that we figured were zero chance. He is still in the running for GW but we all liked AU better. I’m not sure what we are going to do with the youngest. E’ll need a new strategy. Go figure

@collegedad2018 I feel like I probably shouldn’t have submitted by 3 subject tests. Maybe that was a sign to them that they are a second choice. But again, with the right package, who knows what I would have chosen. Plus I still haven’t heard from my first choice. It is all a game and I definitely don’t think I played it right. My friends at private school have college counselors that are so helpful. I go to a huge public school with guidance counselors who are spread way too thin. They can’t do it all. If you can hire some sort of advisor for your younger child, maybe that is the way to go. It’s obvious that having great grades, scores, ECs, essays and recs isn’t the answer. Congrats to your son!

@apdns19 Good Luck to you as well. Our big public school is pretty stretched as well. The counselors try but they all have a big student list. I’ve told my son he will be fine wherever he ends up. It’s what you make of it. It sounds like you will do well too. It’s all been quite the learning experience. I’m not sure I like the game.

@sierra18 i also am a finalist for FDDS. where did you hear that our decisions come out separately from our admission envelope? curious because I didn’t see my award on the portal.

@watermelanin did you apply for the FDDS program?

Getting a bit nervous given the week we’ve had. Rejected from Nova, BC and Richmond, with Cornell and UMich on for next week. AU was targeted as a safety school and she showed little DI. Fingers crossed!
Stats: 4.0 WGPA; 1390 SAT, 6 APs APUSH=5, APEURO=4; APLANG=3, Gov, Lit and Spanish this year.

@spurs_1999 It’s a strange process. We have a yes from Richmond and BC but it looks like AU will be a WL or a no. (4.2, 34, 8 AP)The kid wanted DC and wasn’t in love with GW. He will have some thinking to do. Richmond didn’t come up with much $$. He may decide state school and transfer is the smart decision.

Agreed. She has a yes from Wisconsin and Rhodes(with lots of merit). We just weren’t expected to get shut out.

just got my mail in Fort Worth, TX… nothing from American ): nervous to try making a portal. really hope i get it tomorrow because I can’t stand the idea of waiting until next week

OKAY I GAVE IN AND MADE AN ACCOUNT BUT WHERE DO U SEE FINANCIAL AID AND THE THING THAT SAYS CONGRATULATIONS

just to clarify, are these accounts prospective student portals or my auportals

@pinkzebra1234 Congratulations. It looks like you made it. Best of luck

Did you get rejected? How
Is that possible with your amazing stats ?

To all high-achieving students: is is DEFINITELY yield protection. American is notorious for rejecting top-notch applicants who seem like they are using the college as a safety (as I was told by an admissions officer). If you didn’t show a lot of interest, you were probably put in the reject pile. If anything, it’s a compliment. They know that you’re going to get into better schools and not pick them.

@brentley They appear to be real myau portals. People are getting their congratulations and aid awards. My son hasn’t been able to log in so we figure it’s a no or WL.
