@sahmkc Thanks. We decided no ED based on $$. We needed the ability to compare. He will be fine and and up with a school with arguably better rankings. I don’t put much into those, but I’ll use that to make it go down easier. We have some pretty decent offers elsewhere so it’s all good. Good Luck in your pursuits.
Got in here n NY! Got a great grant! I had good GPA, good ACT, and strong recommendations and common app essay, as well as extracurriculars.
Accepted today in Western NY! Was 100% expecting to get rejected so this is a really nice surprise. Here’s my stats if they help anyone:
1280 SAT
3.7 weighted GPA
Tons of APs/dual enrollment classes
Small rural public school
Strong, diverse extracurriculars
Excellent Common App Essay (made my GC cry)
Wrote AU supplement
DI: Campus visit, attended regional info session, and phone interview
@fergie24x - same here! We’re from Oregon as well and got $0 aid and the standard loans. No work study, nothing, nada! How the heck does that make any sense?? I read and re-read each page figuring I must have missed something somewhere.
What does self-reported outs mean for financial aid?
Accepted in NY
3.7 GPA
Test Optional
Accepted through the STEP program
@npres1500 Congrats! I also applied under the test-optional plan, but haven’t gotten my decision yet. In which state do you live in?
Who else hasn’t received a letter, yet?
Ugh, @BoroDad, sorry to hear the news that your son was waitlisted. I wonder if there’s a geographic element in the mix (trying to figure out why my CA son’s outcome was different than your son’s).
Today, I called American University and the lady on the phone checked my application and said my decision was mailed on Tuesday. I live in Houston, Texas. How many days would it take for me to receive the mail?
@collegedad2018 @pickledginger
Thanks for the kind words. S17 accepted RPI and WPI with merit, full scholy at SUNY, Scholars at UMd, G/T at BU, …and waitlisted American. Go figure.
We’re in DC for the March. We had hoped to visit AU and buy the hoodie to seal the deal. Maybe S11? Ha!
Good luck to everyone
@BoroDad, we wish we could be there for the march! So sad that there’s a need for the march, but an amazing thing to be a part of, and to be able to do together.
I still haven’t received anything in Columbus Oh. If I don’t get anything today I’m calling to see when mine was mailed. With my luck I was probably the last letter they mailed yesterday lol
Haven’t received my letter in the mail but was able to create a portal account and saw that it said “congrats on your acceptance to AU” and then it showed my financial aid, so I think it’s pretty safe to say I’m in. Here are my stats (which are very below many of you who have been waitlisted, must be the yield rate protection)
4.0 weighted gpa
1350 SAT
4 APs
Good recs and essays (at least I think)
Lacrosse and track 1 year
Dance 3 years, company member in senior year (comparable to being captain of a sports team)
SADD board
President of a club
UNICEF club
Lots of community service
2 awards received- one for a class that directly relates to my major, taught by a teacher that wrote my rec (which is why I think the rec is pretty good)
I showed a lot of passion for my major International Relations throughout high school which is what I think was the strongest component of my application.
Good luck to those of you still waiting, hope this helps!
D got her acceptance yesterday in Central New York. Reading this thread, I can’t believe kids who showed interest were waitlisted or rejected. My D’s stats were 94 UW GPA, 99 W; 33 ACT; 4 APs and two dual enrollment courses; public school; good essays, good ECs, good recs. Applied to the Honors program but was accepted to the AU Scholars program with a $20k Presidential Scholarship. She met with admissions rep at school, went to a regional program, did a college visit and then an overnight weekend.
I don’t think she is going to attend. She was also accepted at the joint program between List College and Columbia University and right now that is where she is leaning, just waiting for the financial aid offer. But we did put a lot of effort into AU. College admissions is a lottery game, something has got to change.
Forgot to mention, although AU isn’t one of my tops I did show a lot of interest (toured campus, met with a rep at my school, interviewed, and visited their table at a college fair)
was it just an letter? I see I have something coming in the mail today
My D got an AU grant which is a little scary because that means it could be taken away next year or in future years. Based on that it’s unlikely she will attend. Had it been a scholarship it would be worth considering.
@BoroDad That’s quite a list of schools. RPI and WPI are so different than AU. Was the goal to get to DC? Good Luck to your son. It looks like he is going to be fine no matter what. This yield discussion has made mine feel quite a bit better about things. And your son’s RPI and WPI shocked. He has friends at RPI and knows the difficulty there. It gave him confidence that he wasn’t rejected because of anything he did. We are now considering taking the SUNY route this experience has soured is a bit on big $$ private schools, which is strange since my wife and I both attended them back in the day
I thought USPS doesn’t deliver mail on saturdays
