Auburn Honors Housing

Hi, I just got invited to apply to Auburn’s honors college and I am trying to do my housing application because I hear it fills up fast. Am I supposed to wait to apply for housing until I find out if I get into the honors college?

@thatbeachgirl, Go ahead and apply for housing, because you won’t find out about the Honors College in time. I don’t remember specifically how that worked, but I know my daughter applied for housing last November, and the Honors application wasn’t even due until January 15. I feel like you can go in and modify your request later; the important thing is getting that date/time stamp on your housing application. There are two honors dorms - one in the Quad and one in the Village, so put those locations as your first two choices. She lives in the Village and loves it; I lived in the Quad (a million years ago, before Honors housing!) and loved it - both have their plusses and minuses, so look at the options and decide what’s important to you. For instance, my daughter is also in ROTC and wanted to be close to the ROTC building. The Quad is closer to the library, the architecture school, etc.

Thank you so much @HandLMum ! Do you know if paying the deposit for housing mean that I am committed to going to Auburn?

@thatbeachgirl, I don’t know specifics (maybe call the housing office to ask), but since you have to confirm your acceptance to the university before applying for housing, you’ve sort of committed already. That being said, my daughter had her Auburn acceptance in hand but was waiting to hear from William & Mary, which wouldn’t be till April. We went ahead and paid Auburn deposits for both the university and housing, knowing that if she decided on W&M, we would forfeit some of that money. But if we hadn’t done that, she might have been out of luck on Auburn housing. I’m sure it must be common for larger state universities like Auburn to have students who are waiting to hear from other universities forfeit their deposits each year. I think the university deposit ($200?) and the housing application fee ($50) are non-refundable, but the $250 housing prepayment is refundable. For what it’s worth, she did get into W&M, but ended up deciding on Auburn and loves it!

Thank you!!!
