Good luck to your son’s soccer team- that’s very exciting and I hope they win!
My son is captain of his football team and they are playing in the state quarterfinals tomorrow for the first time in school history. We are in Maryland so he may end up at a school closer to home but applied mostly to big state schools.

Has your daughter received notice yet? My son still hasn’t?!?

Best of luck :four_leaf_clover: to your son! Exciting stuff in MD!

Received acceptance tonight! Good luck to all!

If we paid enrollment at another school in order to secure housing (paid a housing deposit too), can we also put a housing deposit down at Auburn? I think you only have to pay enrollment fee before you pick the room right? Don’t want to wait too long for housing but acceptance depends on merit scholarship.

Housing deposits “get you on the list” for housing, so you can do these at multiple schools (we have done 4). Pay attention to when you have to pay the deposit and the conditions that apply. Once you have chosen a school, I recommend emailing the remaining ones (housing dept specifically) and telling them you will not be attending so they do not issue you a contract or charge you anything- just a CYA step.

So exciting- best of luck. We got knocked out of the playoffs last Friday- S24 was pretty bummed since it’s his last season. But we at least still have our big Thanksgiving Day game against our big rival, so hopefully we come out on top. And good luck with Auburn- hoping you get good news in March. S24 was accepted, and still waiting to hear from many others Dec/Jan. UMD is one of them and that is a reach for him so we shall see.

I’m in no way “down” on Auburn Architecture - it’s a great program and fairly well regarded. S23 was accepted to Auburn (ultimately went elsewhere) but drilling down into the Architecture program led to some questions for what it meant to be enrolled at Auburn. From their site - “Enrollment in the professional program is limited. Eligibility for acceptance is based on successful completion of the first year courses.”

From the numbers I could find online at the time about 1/2 the kids that went into year 1 moved into year 2. I’m sure some of those self-selected out but we couldn’t really get a straight answer from admissions about if there’s a line that gets drawn around “only X kids are allowed to move to 2nd year”.

May or may not be a concern for you but something to be aware of.

Congrats and War Eagle!

My daughter is a freshman in pre nursing (applying to AUCON in the Fall), and it’s been quite an eye-opening process! Feel free to message me if you’d like to talk details.

I think the key is to not put enrollment deposits down at two schools. The common app had a box you checked that said you agreed to not put an enrollment deposit down at more than one school and that if you did you risked losing all admission offers. Thankfully AU allows you to put down a housing deposit without an enrollment deposit.

We are in state and AU is my son’s second choice (4.0UW, 4.37W, 35 ACT). His top choice is OOS and highly competitive in his major so not even sure that he will get in (OOS early decisions won’t release until mid January)and even if he does without significant scholarships if he OOS tuition would be a financial stretch. We are putting down the housing deposit at AU and will wait on any enrollment deposit until he makes a final decision.

My daughter (4.0UW, 4.22W, 32ACT) is undecided between two schools and we are paying enrollment and housing deposit at one school and the housing at AU. If she decides on AU, we will notify the other school that she will not attend before putting down an enrollment deposit with AU.

This is exactly why you “DO NOT” use Common App and apply directly with schools. Every college recruiter we have used gave us this advice 2 years ago with our oldest and we continue as such today.

Yes, to clarify. The enrollment deposit is very different to the housing deposit. You can only enroll deposit at one school. But you can put housing wait list deposits at a number. We have put housing deposits down at some schools where we have yet to hear if we have even been accepted - they open up the housing wait list once your application has been received.

I would be interested in any information you have in regard to the pre-nursing as that is what my son was accepted into for next year.

For those that were accepted this week can we go ahead and put down a housing deposit now or do we have to wait until we get the official packet in the mail? Also if we put down an enrollment deposit and change our minds can we let the college know before putting one down at another college? Lastly AU stated that everyone should fill out the intent to enroll form even if they are not sure? I am confused by this. This is all new to us so I appreciate the help!

We applied to all schools directly that had direct applications. Unfortunately, my son’s top choice ONLY uses Common App so we couldn’t avoid it.

Unfortunately, some schools require an enrollment deposit before the housing deposit. My daughter has narrowed it down to two schools, so we are doing the enrollment deposit and housing deposit to the one who requires it and just the housing deposit with AU. I don’t want her to rush into a decision, but I also don’t want her to miss out on housing at AU (Freshman are required to live on campus at the other school, but housing is tight there and I don’t want her stuck with whatever is left).

I wish everywhere would just allow you to put down a small housing deposit (seems like it would be a win for them bc they get to keep the application fee if you don’t go) so students could have more information on what types of scholarships they might receive. Oh well, I guess I would rather pay the $500 in deposits to know she has options.

Not sure what it looks like for your kiddo in the portal, but my DD was accepted this week and it still shows that she has not been assigned a time slot for housing applications yet.

Her twin brother is a Presidential scholar, so he applied on the same day as her but was accepted on 10/20 (they are notifying Presidential scholars on a rolling basis). Checked his portal on the 8th of Nov and his message said that his assigned date was yesterday - so we just got it done. We opted to just do the $100 housing application fee and not the enrollment fee bc he is still waiting on a decision from two other schools (and hopefully a little clearer financial picture).

You can put down both the enrollment and housing deposits, but I probably wouldn’t worry about the enrollment one if you aren’t 100% sure since it’s nonrefundable and not required prior to the housing application (I hope that makes sense).

I didn’t see a message about filling out the intent to enroll form, but I probably just missed it. If you tell me where you saw it, I’m happy to take a look at my kids’ stuff.

**Full disclosure - I’m no expert - the twins are my only kiddos so I am not speaking from experience (but I am a compulsive researcher  )
