Audit After Admission

Is it true that around January and February UC and other colleges will send 10% of applicants a letter telling them to prove 1 specific thing in their application?

and will they ask these questions only during these 2 months or even later on like in April or May

and if it is true will they send us the letter by mail or email

Complete nonsense.

Why would they? Proving one mere item on your application verifies next to nothing.

Not at all nonsense. UC appears to be the only college system in the US with a fact checking office. I have no idea what percentage they ask to prove something or when they do it, but the operation definitely exists.

Why? To discourage most from lying on their application. When they started this a few Yeats ago they broadcast it loud and wide as a deterrent.

Yes, they may choose one item from your application and ask for evidence (At UC only really), but they will not say “Send us something that proves one thing in your application” (maybe I am misreading the question here).

I saw a thread (on the UC sub forum?) from someone who has been asked to verify his volunteer hours.

West Coast Urban Myth

^ Maybe it was simply in response to an outlandish number of hours or hours that didn’t seem to jive with the rest of the application.

no, they do a random check and his was.

Somewhere here, I read that the UC’s randomly select 10% like OP said. I don’t know what specifically they ask for though

I think it’s a good thing they do, in fact I wish more schools did. I was completely honest about my hours, opportunities, etc., but I know many people who fudged them.
