auditing a class

What is your opinion of auditing a class? Don't worry, I don't plan on doing so (at least this semester), but I'm curious as to how it works. Is it just a way to take a class without it counting towards your degree?

Auditing a class is basically showing up to class, take notes and learn. You won’t receive credit for that class, nor a grade, nor have to take any exams. Which means, you won’t have any official means of proving you took that course.

If you want to audit, I believe it depends on the professor. Some professors won’t allow due to insurance/liability reasons, but this is typically the case if you are auditing a medium/small class. But for a large class, oh lets say baby bio, where the roster is 1000+, you will have no problem auditing. Just contact the professor of the class you want to audit.

I might do that for some science classes.

How is it ‘cost-wise’ for auditing a class? (Like is it the same price as if you were to take the class with credit hours?)

Cost wise, your time.

You don’t pay anything to audit a class.

You also pay with your health. For instance in gigantic classes with over 200 students if one person is contagious and is coughing like no tommorow you are highly likely to get sick. Source: freshman year Fisher lecture hall:(
