Auditing/pass-fail for high school classes?

So next semester, I'm going on a 5-week homestay/study abroad in France (French is my major interest). Because of block scheduling I was able to take AP English Lit, AP Stats, AP Gov and my required gym class this semester. Next semester I have French 6, Spanish 1, Psychology and Band.

My band and French teachers don't really care about what I'm doing/making up work, but I will probably end up auditing my other two classes (Spanish/Psych) or taking them pass-fail. There would be too much work to make up and I don't want to hurt my transcript, but I didn't want to graduate early because I will be there for most of the semester. I'm writing a letter to colleges about my study abroad (I didn't put it on my application because it was not finalized/organized at the time).

Do you think colleges will look down on the fact that I will most likely be auditing/pass-fail these classes? Will my guidance counselor need to write to them and explain this (it wasn't originally on my transcript as such)?

Thanks.

Anyone...?

since you have French 6, colleges probably won't care about Span 1. But, would suggest you GC explain the time away, just in case.

Thanks.

I'm going to write my own letter (hopefully finish it tonight if I find out the exact dates), but I need to talk to my counselor tomorrow as well so I'll ask him to write a letter explaining the auditing/study abroad.

Explain it . . . I think the study abroad will only serve to enhance your application

Yeah, that's what I was hoping because I'm really interested in French (taken all the possible French courses, took the AP test, taking Le Grand Concours, studying abroad), but I hope colleges don't look down on me if I audit those 2 classes.
