This is the first audition for my son, first time creating an audition book etc. He is cool as a cucumber and says he is excited, not nervous. He will be at the AM dance call and audition is after 12:00. His one concern is how to “clean up” after the dance. I’m bringing a towel, baby wipes and anything else I can think of. Though his dance call and the audition will be two hours apart, I’m too anxious about driving back to the hotel, which is eight miles away, so he can take a shower. We will be arriving tomorrow night, so I won’t have a chance to try a dry run to the school to check if it is an easy drive.

Break a leg!!! You’ll probably have time to drive back to the hotel but I doubt he’ll really need to— some wipes should do most of it!! My D is working the first shift of auditions (but for the ATs, not MTs)— just enjoy it!! They want you to succeed!!!

At my S’s first audition the dance call was first, he didn’t feel like he need a full shower. I’m sure it will be fine with just the wipes. He’s only have 2 but neither was over hour so you may have time to run back if need be.

Break a leg!!

Thanks MTMajorCook and Gwen Fairfax! I think you figured out I just needed some encouraging words due to my nervousness! Feels great to have your support!!!

entertainersmom-On days when my S goes from hockey practice to rehearsals and has no time to shower…I feel bad for his fellow cast, he says he sprays a lot of axe!
Maybe bring that too…lol

SField - he probably has a few cans rolling around under his bed!!

entertainersmom-lol! Good luck to your son! :)

We just arrived at the hotel a 1/2 hour ago. Husband, who is at home, said a letter arrived from U of Hartford today. Husband ripped it open, thinking it was about the audition, but it was an academic acceptance letter, woot! Need to hit the sack. Thanks all for the support!!

Congrats!! When did you send in your app for Hartt? We are anxiously waiting for our reply.

entertainersmom-Exciting news!!! Congrats and Good Luck to your S tomorrow!

On behalf of my son, thanks!

Bisouu - The Common App was sent in on Sept. 15 and the Hartt supplement on Oct. 25th. I don’t think the recommendations and transcripts arrived until Nov. 1st.

As you can tell, I’m an early riser. I’m sitting on my bed, in the dark with the laptop :)

My two cents on post-dance call cleanups and advice for boys auditioning in general: nix on the Axe!! I’ve been working costumes for most of my S’s shows, and the biggest admonition to all the actors (other than “Hang up your costumes!”) was NO Axe or Tag! They’re overpowering, especially right after you put them on, so I’d just go with the wipes and a swipe of his normal (non-Axe/Tag) underarm product. Also, even if your S doesn’t usually wear one, consider an undershirt/white T under his dress audition shirt which might help with the flop sweats. No sense trying to make a good impression while stinking up the joint, with sweat stains on your shirt!

LOL maMTma-- I’ll admit thinking the same thing. I hope everything went beautifully today, for all.

Thanks maMTma, I will unpack the axe! ;)

The only part of our supplement that wasn’t complete was the $40.00 and head shot. Sent those last Monday. Hope to hear soon then. Thanks :)

We received our acceptance letter too Yay!

No Axe! In fact, apparently no deodorant until after the dance call when my son asked if I put some in the dance bag and he said “I should have put some on before”. Oh well, he didn’t have any discernible odor, so phew. I’m writing more about the day in the audition review thread.

My D received her academic acceptance today also!

I thought I would write the info I learned yesterday specific to Hartt here. There was an information session held while the kids were in the dance call. The Conservatory Financial Aid representative went first, and he explained that the scholarships are talent and if applicable, need wrapped into one, no merit. The school only uses the FAFSA. Alan Rust came next, and he said the class load is 40% required academics, 60% major specific, so more like a BA mix (those are my words). He also said that many of the conservatory students graduate with honors, and part of the reason is the gpa minimum requirements of the major. He also explained that the first year is spent eliminating any bad habits and learning proper training and technique. The second year includes productions for the theatre department and the third year on is when the students are part of the productions for the public… The student representative was a great choice. She was poised and lovely and thoroughly answered questions. She said that many of the students move off campus after the first year and the area is safe. There were many Hartt student ambassadors roaming around, frequently checking in with the kids and parents. The Hartt students were very genuine and informative. Water, granola bars and bananas were well stocked.
We did not get a chance to check out the campus. The performing arts building appeared to be a refurbished factory, and very nice. I ended up talking with parents of a daughter who were down from New Hampshire. Our kids recognized each other from a Thespian event. There were a couple of Hartt students from NH who joined the conversation, so we were part of the Northern New England hub. My son had a favorable impression of the day.

Great report, entertainersmom! I will add that if you come in with APs that 40% academics shrinks fast. D has been there 3 semesters and has one academic class left to take, (sometime in the next 2 and a half years).
