I am auditioning at MaryMount College for acting. What kind of questions they could ask after my audition?
Thank you for sharing

at my audition, we had a very informal group interview session. you’re asked what else you are interested in besides theatre… simple questions you’ll have no trouble answering. just be yourself! don’t try to give the “right answer.” good luck!

Thanks for sharing with me:) Can u tell me more of this process? I will be very appreciate:))

At the beginning there is a big information session in the theatre. They are very warm and welcoming, I really didn’t know much about the school, and was skeptical about the quality of their program, but they really described it well and were open to any questions.

We were divided into groups of maybe 15 - 20 students (seperate MT and straight acting groups) and were taken into small drama studios. There we had a long warm-up session (almost an hour long!) that really got us warmed up. The teacher who led the warm-up session (and the audition) was excellent; it really proved to me that the quality of the program was better than I had expected.

Then we all sat down as an “audience” and the auditions began. We got to watch each others’ auditions. There was no running order, so we could decide when we wanted to go. I would recommend going at the beginning because they seemed to spend more time with those towards the beginning, and you are also more recently warmed up, which is a plus!

We only presented one contemporary monologue each (you can use a chair if you want to). Be careful; try to stay towards the back of the room. Draw an invisible line 6 feet in front of the auditors and don’t cross it: they don’t want you “in their face” (it was one of the things they got annoyed about). Another note that they gave a lot of people, and seemed to get annoyed about when a lot of people did it without listening to the notes that they gave other people was: pick a focal point! If you are speaking to a person, pick a focal point and hold it! (When I say they got annoyed, I don’t mean that they were visibly annoyed or rude, but after telling one person to fix it, I can only imagine it wasn’t fun telling someone else for the fifth time).

They might help you with your monologue or they might not - don’t take it as a sign of it being good or bad. I had to do my monologue twice. Mine is a dramatic monologue where the character is very sad, so they wanted me to do it again, but make the audience laugh a couple of times - I guess they wanted to see how I could play a different genre.

When everybody is finished, you will sit in a circle, and every person will have ca. 1 minute to talk about themselves. They want to know what you do outside of school OTHER than theatre (eg. this one kid in my group said “without theatre…I would DIE.” - I dont think that was what they were looking for…they obviously know that you love theatre since you’re there, and they just want to know more about you.) Just tell them anything about yourself, don’t worry about that bit :)

They are very warm and friendly - it is not an intimidating process! I really enjoyed their auditions :)

Best of luck!

Also, I started a thread a few weeks ago called Marymount Manhattan BFA acting and there are other descriptions (including mine of my D’s) of the audition experience. However, from everything my D told me, it sounds like Drama’s description is very thorough!

Thanks a lot drama. You helped me a lot:))))

stanlyusa, I hope your audition went (or goes) well! My Marymount audition was probably my favorite out of all of them. I was just curious if anyone had heard back from them yet? I auditioned in late February & haven’t heard anything, so I’m thinking that means a rejection… I feel like my audtion went well, but all these schools are just so incredibely selective. :(

embemily, I auditioned in late February too (the 20th), and when I was visting the school yesterday they told my mom that the letters for that group would be sent this Wednesday.

embemily and clairethebear, how was the audition process goes? What kind of questions they ask?
Thanks a lot:)))

I also auditoned on Feb.20th and the questions they asked were basically to state where you were from, your interest besides theatre, and just to talk a little bit about yourself. We also sat in a huge circle as a group when we did this. Other than that the audition is very chill so you should be fine … hope that helps good luck!!l

stanlyusa, my experience was pretty similar to what drama said. It was a very relaxed experience and the evaluators were very nice. At the end, we all stood in a circle and he asked each of us to go around and say our name, where we were from, and a fact about ourselves. (I said that I have a cat, hahaha how lame is that?) All of us at the audition had “bonded” somewhat by the end of it because we had experienced the whole thing together rather than alone in an audition room one at a time. From what I can remember those are the only questions they asked. They may ask you something here or there if your audition makes them think of it. Like one girl was asked if she was a dancer, etc. It was a very well-run audition overall.

clairethebear, thanks a lot:))))

When are you auditioning? I thought all of their dates were over…

julibelle, april 8th. I am a transfer student.

Thanks drama, that really helped me a lot! I am going for my audition at MMM on saturday, but for musical theatre. One question: what would be best to wear? I want to be comfortable, especially during the dance portion, but still look nice. I can’t decide if yoga pants would look sloppy, or a dress is too formal!
