I would make a suggestion to those worrying about this. Have your child do his or her audition material in front of a group of say 10 people. At the end ask them if they paid more attention to how he or she acted or how he or she looked. If it’s the latter, pick another outfit.

The D wore combat boots and a dress for her first round of auditions. She loves them and is very comfortable them. Great choice to take some nerves out of a nervewracking process!

Many girls wore boots to my audition. I, myself worse short ankle and heeled boots and was just one of many. Many girls were also wearing lace up combat boots. I’d say in my waiting room about half or a little more than half of the girls were wearing some kind of boot. Only a quarter were wearing traditional heels surprisingly as a good number of girls wore nude flats. I won’t be wearing my a heeled ankle boots anymore though as I got a new dress that doesn’t match.

We have seen a lot of boots too, my D absolutely loves them (she has a pretty nice sized collection of them) and thought she was going to be original wearing hers but found out she was one of the crowd in this years crop of auditioners. :(

A dress a few inches above the knee does not sound too short to me. I don’t think my D wears any dresses to the knee. Shorter dresses are what’s showing for young women. I simply would avoid super short. I just don’t think it needs to be near the knee though.
