I have a question about the CD for the NYU audition. (As my S nears the end of this process, I seem to become even more detail-oriented. What will I do with all this energy when this process is over?) At some point, I read some threads about problems with the Cd players. Do you put each song on a separate Cd or both on one? Do some people bring their own CD players?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

We were at unifieds and there were lots of kids walking around with CD players. Not unusual. My d is acting so we didn't have to have one but her friend brought one. My d is doing NYU in Atlanta this Friday....last one! hope this helps. I think it would be nice to be prepared. Some kids even had it on their IPOD and a small speaker as was more convenient.

If your daughter's music is on a CD, I think she'd be wise to bring a CD-player with her. Seem to recall that my son assumed UCLA would provide player at audition, and his mother had to race around at last minute to get him a player because he was up first.

Of course, UCLA is not NYU, but be prepared. Last thing you need is a child wigging out because he or she doesn't have a CD or forgot the power cord or some similar potential disaster.

My S used 2 different CDs (burned from digital recordings) with one song on each. He didn't have any problems with the CD player provided by NYU but did have his iPod with small speakers in his backpack just in case. :)

Do you have the whole song as the track you play? Or do you have a separate track with just the cut song on it? Do you press play or do the auditors? Haha I have no idea how this works.

I think that NYU asks for 16-bar cuts, so the best thing to do would be to record each cut as one track. Thus, you could put one song/track (that is, one 16 bar cut) on one CD and a second song/track (that is, another 16 bar cut) on a second CD. Or, you could burn both cuts/songs on two different tracks on one CD. My D has been the one to press "play" during the auditions that she has had that used recorded music.

D had separate CD's for each of her songs & cuts. She only needed them at the NYU audition, there were "live" accompanists everywhere else. Otherwise she had the accompaniment loaded onto her IPod for warm ups and run throughs. She had to press the play button (later learned that she could have asked the auditor to do so :)) and she was really happy that she did not have multiple tracks on a CD (in case she would press a button by mistake due to nerves or what not).

My son advises that at NYU they had a CD player, but I recall when he was at the United Auditions in LA he brought his own and borrowed it to some other students. So, I guess it'd be a good idea to have one along, just in case.

My son's friend had both songs on one CD, but I would also have an extra CD in case of any problems.
My son is a freshman at NYU in CAP21 in case anyone would like to ask me any questions. We live in Colorado.
